Main duties of the job
Efficiency of the Pre-Operative Assessment (POA) pathway (e.g. minimisation of on the day cancellation in theatre)
• Excellent nursing care and health promotion
• Liaison with secondary and primary care
• Well-led and supported team
• Effective controls in the maintenance of budget
• Implementation of nursing strategy and supporting the Trust/Division Objectives(implementation of new safety flows)
• Enhance patients experience by ensuring follow up calls are made for all elective surgical discharges within the pathway time frame agreement
• Seeks continuous stakeholder input in order to identify growth opportunities and developments

Person specification
Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse or operating department practitioner.
- Current NMC/HP Registration and PIN
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- Pre-Operative Assessment Course
- (Minimum Foundation level) Evidence of continued professional development within specialty.
- IT literate
Desirable criteria
- Management course
- Working towards higher degree (e.g. Masters or PhD).
- Pre Operative Assessment Course Advanced Level
- Day Surgery Course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 2 years at Band 6 in Pre Operative Assessment. (POA)
- Experience of autonomous working in POA.
- Experience of processes involved in managing a team.
- Experience in leading appraisal process
- Knowledge of quality improvement, standard setting, benchmarking and audit.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing change
- Having worked in a Day Surgery Unit/OPD
