PR Manager, Penguin Random House Children's

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Are you looking for your next step in your PR career? Are you interested in the latest in children's authors, brands, media and social platforms? Do you love sharing stories? Do you know how to connect with audiences?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, passionate, strategic and digital-first thinking PR Manager to join our award-winning children's publishing team.

About PRH Children's and the PR team

We are the UK's no.1 children's publisher, home to Puffin and Ladybird and some of the most recognised entertainment brands and authors, including: Bluey, Peppa Pig, Peter Rabbit, The Snowman, Tom Fletcher, Roald Dahl, Jeff Kinney, Adam Kay, Katie Kirby, Robin Stevens and Jacqueline Wilson. We also launch talented new rising stars in the children's space, including: Jamie Littler, Rachel Morrisroe, Kim Hillyard, Nazneen Ahmed Pathak, Sathnam Sanghera and Manjeet Mann.

Our marketing and PR teams are organised into three audience-focussed mini- hubs (across Preschool, Primary and YA) and we are looking for a new PR Manager to largely work across our Preschool and Primary Hubs.

Key responsibilities of the role

The PR Manager will manage end-to-end press campaigns working across some of our biggest brands and high-profile talent as well as campaigns for debut authors, licensed brands and illustrators in the preschool and middle grade spaces. You will be able to plan and implement your own innovative and targeted press campaigns, which get into the hearts and minds of our consumers, through multiple platforms.

Detailed responsibilities may include:

  • Plan, manage and evaluate consumer facing press campaigns for books and brands within budget to reach targeted audiences and connect with consumers
  • Promote our brands, books, illustrators and authors through digital channels, social media, print, radio, and TV to ensure coverage and generate sales
  • Manage all aspects of events and tours including event creation, schedule management and the generation of social media content across our channels. For example partnership events, book festivals, schools events, signing events, stock signings, talent appearances, dinners and showcases
  • Establish and maintain strong external relationships, with consumer media, trade media, key influencers and networks within the industry
  • Create and execute brand campaigns and activations for some of our preschool IP and classic brands such as Peter Rabbit, The Snowman and Spot
  • Effectively communicate press campaigns internally to all departments across the division, especially marketing, sales, rights and editorial, as well as externally to authors and agents
  • Create and write a variety of print and digital promotional materials for trade press, consumer press and end consumers
  • Coordinate international press requests for group companies, where appropriate
  • Supervise and line manage more junior members of staff

What you'll bring

You don't need to have worked in publishing before to be considered for this role, but a passion to work with children's brands is essential. Perhaps you've worked in entertainment or media PR previously, or in a PR agency - whatever your PR background, we'd like to hear from you if you:

  • Have a keen interest in the UK children's book market
  • Are a creative individual who isn't afraid to think outside of the box
  • Be highly organised with excellent time management to juggle concurrent campaigns
  • Have excellent communication skills and are confident with pitching and presenting
  • Are able to generate multi-channel campaigns, on and offline, with innovative and creative digital content as a core element
  • Are a team player but can work autonomously using initiative
