About the Role

We are looking for a PR & Communications Manager to apply their skills and implement a public relations strategy to raise awareness of our soccer journalism, talent and ongoing campaigns and initiatives to help drive our UK and International growth. Reporting to the Senior Director of Growth, the PR & Communications Manager will place stories about The Athletic soccer journalism, projects and develop launch plans for campaigns that highlight our brand messages.

This will be for a 6 month fixed term engagement.

Responsibilities

    • Serve as an external communications contact for The Athletic.
    • Create and implement communications plans that raise the profile of our business and journalism.
    • Write press releases, blog posts and statements.
    • Coordinate interview requests for The Athletic journalists and business leaders.
    • Pitch trade and consumer stories for The Athletic projects and product and campaign launches.
    • Help with social media outreach and promotion.
    • Work closely with Editorial and with other areas of the Marketing and Growth department to find unique stories and initiatives to share publicly to amplify the value of The Athletic.
    • Monitor, evaluate and improve the performance of our PR & communications on target audiences.
    • Oversee Broadcast day and media outreach with key talent for upcoming campaign launches.

Requirements

    • Minimum of five years of experience in a media, product or technology communications role.
    • Proven media relations experience and results.
    • Collaborative and able to work with a variety of teams and subject-matter experts.
    • Able to translate complex topics into clear language.
    • Experience with digital media.
    • Good project management skills.
    • Attentive to details.
    • Strong written and communication skills.
    • Approachable and able to build strong working relationships.
    • Resilience under pressure, adapting quickly to deliver comms results when confronted with unforeseen demands.
    • Acting on your own initiative and the ability to influence senior management and key stakeholders the value and logic of PR & Comms proposals.
    • Role will be based in London, UK.
