As Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering Manager you will be joining a growing division of Segula. This offers a large potential for personal growth within a consultancy who works with multiple customers and sectors. You will primarily be responsible for leading a team of manufacturing engineers that define, design and implement manufacturing processes and equipment for a new range of traction batteries. This is an opportunity for and experienced team leader or a high achieving engineer to step up to team leadership.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Collaboration with product design to define and optimise product and process, balancing quality, cost and delivery and safety.
  • Equipment procurement decisions in conjunction with the purchasing team.
  • Installation, commission and prove-out of battery manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Ensuring built-in-quality through robust process design including developing and deploying PFMEAs, control plans and associated shop floor documents
  • Achievement of equipment performance targets including technical availability and process quality indices such as CpK.
  • Commercial and technical management of equipment vendors
  • Installation Site Safety and Management
  • Development of individual engineers and teams, with the intent to develop the overall ME team to world-leading standards.
  • The role requires collaboration across multiple functions and management of complex internal and external relationships.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Expertise in automotive assembly or machining facilities (or similar).
  • A good understanding of safety processes and proven leadership for delivering safe manufacturing processes and facilities, including DRA, MFMEA, CE/UKCA marking, ergonomics.
  • Strong mechanical engineering skills are required particularly in joining techniques such as welding, adhesives and fasteners, and core ME skills such as tolerance stacks, design for manufacturing and statistical process control.
  • A working understanding of control systems and associated IT interfaces.
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability, including use of problem-solving tools/frameworks such as 6 Sigma.
  • Project and people management experience.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of high-speed automation systems, vision systems, robotics and measurement systems is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of traction battery manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Knowledge and application of lean manufacturing within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Agile project management experience.

Additional Information

  • 12 months+ contracts (Fixed term or IIR35)
