We have an exciting opportunity for a Power Platform Specialist to join our growing IT team based in the A&O Shearman Belfast office.

The core of the global technology department's mission is to provide stable, reliable, and secure platforms and services to our partners, staff and clients and fulfil our regulatory obligations across 30+ countries. To ensure that a consistent and standardised IT service is delivered to all offices, IT is managed and led as a global function, enabling all offices to benefit from complete systems integration and economies of scale. We have around 400 technologists based predominantly in the UK, Singapore and increasingly in the US.
The Enterprise Technology Platforms team is responsible for shaping the strategic direction and roadmap of the firm's core technology platforms. These platforms act as the foundational 'building blocks' that enable the delivery of strategic business outcomes. The team ensures that platform services are continuously improved, aligned with business needs, and prioritized effectively. By designing, building and managing these platforms, the team simplifies and enhances the firm's technology landscape-making it more efficient, scalable and fit for purpose.
What you will do
Reporting to the Principal Power Platform Engineer, this role supports the development, maintenance and operation of solutions and integrations within the Power Platform. The role is responsible for working with internal developers and external third-party service providers.
The role contributes to the delivery of Power Platform solutions that the firm develops internally in line with firm wide or departmental objectives, policies and standards. It will be required to use all tools at their disposal including APIs to integrate systems, to create bespoke applications for business stakeholders.
- Support the development and operation of internal software applications and microservices in alignment with the firm's strategy, standards and policies.
- Participate in sprint planning, retrospectives and demos. Develop working relationships with stakeholders from other IT teams to contribute to the overall goals of the function.
- Work with fee earners and business teams to design, build, test and deploy solutions following all architectural best practices and procedures.
- Write unit, integration and acceptance tests.
- Work with Technology Services to resolve operational issues and deploy software releases.
- Work with stakeholders from Software Engineering, Data Governance and Information Security to ensure solutions are performant, compliant and secure.
- Provide guidance on the Power Platform to other teams as required.
- Support service provider reviews to assess performance against service targets, drive innovation and ensure any remediation activities are being delivered.
- Support the management of the Power Platform budget and benefits delivery processes.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the Power Platform.
What you will have
- Experience in software and API development, specifically the Microsoft Power Platform, preferably within the legal or professional services sector.
- Experience in Power Platform technologies, with knowledge of Canvas Apps, Model-Driven Apps, and Power Automate. Proven experience in managing these solutions operationally, including effective Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) practices within an agile delivery environment.
- Awareness of modern development frameworks, methods and languages (e.g. C# .NET)
- Knowledge of software architecture, patterns, testing and debugging.
- Understanding of the testing pyramid.
- Experience of agile working methods and work item tracking tools.
- Awareness of current IT trends and ability to consider how they apply to the firm.
- Experience in project management. Gathering requirements and working with stakeholders.
- At least 3 years background in the IT industry, with proven experience in developing Power Platform solutions.
- Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Analytical approach to problem solving.
- Good commercial and financial acumen with strong numerical reasoning skills.
- Ability to mentor colleagues and help others to develop in their jobs.
