About the role
Are you passionate about driving delivery excellence across complex change portfolios? As Portfolio Assurance Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and embedding assurance practices that safeguard project success and enhance strategic outcomes. This is a high-impact role at the heart of NFU Mutual's Enterprise Change Portfolio, offering the opportunity to influence how assurance is delivered across the organisation.
In this leadership role, you'll proactively plan and execute centralised 1st line assurance activities, providing expert oversight and challenge throughout the project lifecycle. You'll lead the development of integrated assurance and approval plans, ensuring they are effective and aligned with key delivery checkpoints. Your insights will guide sponsors and governance committees, helping to identify risks early and drive successful outcomes.
You'll manage third-party assurance reviews where independence is required, delivering robust recommendations and overseeing implementation. By producing high-quality assurance reports and sharing lessons learned, you'll contribute to continuous improvement across the portfolio. You'll also support business case development, ensuring assurance is embedded from the outset of every initiative.

About you
You're an experienced assurance professional with a strong background in project and programme delivery. You bring a strategic mindset, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and a passion for continuous improvement. You're confident leading assurance activities and influencing at all levels of the organisation. Your skills will include:
- Risk Management & Assurance Planning: Proven experience leading assurance frameworks and risk mitigation strategies.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Skilled in analysing performance data and using reporting tools to inform decision-making.
- Governance Knowledge: Deep understanding of governance standards and compliance frameworks.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders and present assurance findings clearly.
- Leadership & Problem Solving: Experience leading teams and resolving complex assurance challenges.
- Organisation: Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
Qualifications
Essential:
• Management of Portfolios Practitioner
• Qualified Assurance Reviewer / Assurance Leadership
Desirable:
• Management of Risk Practitioner
• P3O Practitioner
• APM Project Management Qualification
• Management of Value Practitioner
• Prince2 / Prince2 Agile or equivalent
• Experience with Microsoft Planning or PlanView
