Your Purpose
The Port Operations Manager is responsible for providing technical and operational support to accompany vessels within the assigned area of responsibility, ensuring port operations are executed efficiently, safely, and in a cost-effective manner, in line with the companies' operational standards and service requirements.
Your Impact
- Performs technical feasibility analysis of proposed future cruise itineraries, coordinating closely with the Vice President, Global Port Operations (UK) for the assigned region.
- Attends and supports on-site operational inspections with relevant internal departments to ensure readiness ahead of the start of each new cruise season.
- Participates in on-site inspections of new ports, producing detailed inspection reports and risk assessments.
- Conducts preliminary assessments of new ports of call, evaluating infrastructure, operational capabilities, and overall suitability in line with MSC cruises ship operational requirements.
- Supports the Port Operations Director in the berth reservation and allocation process, coordinating with regional and local offices (e.g., China and Japan).
- Coordinates and organises required port services, including shuttle bus operations (inter-port), tender arrangements, and other local logistical services within the assigned area.
- Supports the Head of Port Costs Control by ensuring all operational service requirements are accurately captured and reflected in the annual budget planning process, and that any additional services arising from operational decisions are properly monitored, documented, and tracked.
- Maintains, updates, and validates all assigned port operational data within the Portolano platform, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Ensures port agent contact details and operational communication channels are continuously updated and maintained for all ports within the assigned region.
Your Journey so far
- Chief Officer Unlimited Licence or higher.
- Competency in: decision making, communication, conflict resolution and the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of Italian and/or other European languages is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Strong computer literacy, with proficient knowledge of basic operating systems and office applications.
- Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and strong teamwork skills in an international working environment.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced operational setting.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong time management capabilities.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Willing and available to travel frequently, often with short notice.
