The team

Our News and programmes team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It's a fast-moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit and a Weather centre based in the heart of Westminster. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.

The role

ITV Border is looking for an exceptional journalist with strong political knowledge to lead our coverage of Scottish politics.

The job involves presenting and reporting for our political programme 'Representing Border' and reporting on Scottish politics for our news programme 'Lookaround'.

You will be based in the Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood, travel to London to report from Westminster when the story requires, and report from southern Scotland to see how political events and policies are affecting the Border population.

This is a high profile, on-screen role for an experienced reporter with a proven track record of delivering impactful, high-quality and distinctive journalism. You will help set the news agenda and be able to analyse, explain and contextualise political policies and events so that you can guide our audience through stories with ease. You uphold our excellent reputation for balance and impartiality and have expert skills in establishing and maintaining the highest-level contacts.

You will be expected to provide expert contributions to our website and social media platforms.

For external candidates, training will be provided on our systems and ways of working.

A showreel no longer than 5 minutes in duration demonstrating the minimum criteria is essential.

This role entails:

• Covering and breaking political news stories

• Presenting and reporting

• Generating a rich pool of creative ideas for stories, angles and treatments.

• Good communicator with a passion for Scotland and its people.

• Maintaining an engaging and impartial online presence

Key responsibilities:

• Drive, innovative and distinct coverage

• Keeping abreast of key developments within Scotland and Westminster and maintain a strong contacts base

• Ensure material is gathered in line with ITV's various legal and regulatory frameworks

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

• Excellent journalism skills

• Strong knowledge of Scottish politicsand of broadcast compliance and the Ofcom Code.

• Broadcasting experience would be ideal (or "an advantage") - training will be

provided for the right candidate without broadcasting experience

• Strong understanding of the Border audience and the devolved structures of Scotland.

• Self-starter and ideas to bring original content to our audience on air and online.

• Full UK driving licence

• Offers a different take with a track record for generating, developing and telling original stories.

• Knowledge, skills and experience of reaching new audiences on new platforms.

• Excellent, relevant contacts with an ability to build trust with people, communities, faiths and races outside of their own to tell their stories and so deliver original coverage for our online and television audience.

• Excellent knowledge of media law & compliance and the ability to exercise excellent editorial judgement and accuracy in their writing.

• A good knowledge of the Border region and its distinct features.
