Planning Manager

Danny Sullivan Group are currently looking for a Planning Manager for a large rail project in the Bristol area.
The successful candidate will take full ownership of the project programme, providing strategic and operational planning support throughout all phases - from design and procurement through to construction and handover.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the project planning and scheduling activities, ensuring all programmes are realistic, achievable, and aligned with project objectives.
- Develop, manage, and maintain detailed Primavera P6 project programmes, including baseline, target, and as-built schedules.
- Work closely with project teams, design consultants, supply chain, and clients to coordinate activities and integrate programmes.
- Monitor progress, identify delays or risks, and propose mitigation strategies to maintain delivery targets.
- Support the commercial and project management teams with earned value analysis, progress reporting, and forecasting.
- Prepare and present detailed planning reports and dashboards for senior management and client meetings.
- Manage and mentor a small team of planners, providing technical guidance and professional development.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and standardisation of planning procedures across the business.
Experience/qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Planning Manager or Senior Planner on major rail or infrastructure projects
- Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and planning principles (including NEC contract environments).
- Experience within a Tier 1 main contractor setting.
- Excellent understanding of construction methodologies, particularly in rail civils, earthworks, bridges, and structures.
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Membership of APM, ICE, or similar professional body.
- Familiarity with 4D planning and digital construction tools (Synchro, Navisworks).
