Project Overview
Sizewell C (SZC) is at the heart of the UK's clean energy revolution. This state-of-the-art nuclear power plant in Suffolk, backed by EDF and the UK Government, will generate low-carbon electricity for millions of homes, playing a vital role in meeting the UK's energy needs while reducing carbon emissions. Role Overview
VSL UK is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to spearhead the bulk earthworks planning function on Sizewell C. You will develop, coordinate and monitor an integrated, compliant programme, ensuring timely delivery of key milestones. Leading a high-performing team, you'll collaborate across site establishment, enabling works and design partners, bringing data-driven insight and clear communication to keep the project on course.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead and mentor a team of planners; set standards and coach on best practice for large-scale earthworks.
- Embed a strong safety culture and collaborative ways of working.
Programme Strategy & Governance
- Develop and maintain the earthworks programme in line with VSL procedures and project controls.
- Ensure programmes are functionally compliant and fully aligned to contractual requirements (NEC).
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with site establishment, enabling works, construction, design and commercial teams to create a cohesive execution plan.
- Coordinate interfaces and handoffs to safeguard critical path and float.
Controls & Insights
- Operate Primavera P6 in an enterprise environment; structure data to support robust analytics.
- Use KPIs and progress data to track performance, identify deviations, and drive corrective actions.
- Produce clear, concise reports and present programme status to stakeholders.
Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Ensure the programme is communicated effectively to all levels-planners, engineers, delivery teams and leadership-fostering alignment on goals and milestones.
Regulatory & Project Compliance
- Uphold compliance with nuclear safety and environmental regulations throughout planning and change control.
- Support contractual processes (e.g., NEC programme submissions/updates, early warnings, change assessments).
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience managing and administering programmes under NEC contracts on large-scale earthworks or major civils projects.
Technical Skills
- Advanced user of Primavera P6 (enterprise environment).
- Strong grasp of project/programme controls and data structuring; confident with KPIs and variance analysis.
Leadership & Behaviours
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior planners.
- Excellent communicator with a collaborative mindset and high attention to detail.
- Track record of championing safety and maintaining compliance in regulated environments.

- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken, is required
