Location: Remote, UK

Salary: Competitive

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday

What you`ll do:

To manage and control the risks to personnel for work activities deemed as `on or near the line`, working in cooperation with operations managers to ensure safe working practices. This includes managing site risks, activity risks, and operational risks, always ensuring business compliance, working against a range of internal and external requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

General responsibilities: As a competent SSoW Planner, responsible for ensuring all safe working practices and activities are undertaken within suitable timeframes for each site and correctly documented. Responsible for creating safe working packs, possessions and engineering work sites, and line blocks and associated additional protective arrangements.

Compliance, health, and safety: Responsible for ensuring compliance across all rail sites, working in collaboration with our HSQE team to investigate non-compliance, ensuring we meet all requirements of Health and Safety against internal and external regulations, including those set by Network Rail to ensure we meet industry requirements. Any issues identified are reviewed and relevant parties informed with suitable documentation in place. Ensuring all safe working packs on site with relevant safety critical activities outlined. As part of this role you will be required to retain compliance with mandatory Health and Safety training and any other relevant competencies.

Collaborative working: Build and manage collaborative working relationships with responsible managers and operational teams to ensure effective and safe planning of railway safety critical activities, ensuring competent resource representation at all relevant planning meetings as required to plan possessions and managing worksites.

Stakeholder management: Manage relationships with external stakeholders, maintaining strong communications with the relevant rail routes and regions we are responsible for working in.

Leadership: Acting as mentors for our assistant rail planners, supporting them with the planning of safety critical activities ensuring they are suitable for use and meet required standards.

Risk management: Access all hazard and access information available and effectively plan and arrange all line blockage planning, including associated additional protection arrangements with support from the operational team and assistant planners. Using relevant systems including RailHub and PPS to complete tasks.

Policies and Procedures: Ensuring compliance with all internal policies and procedures within the Rail division and HSQE, and external procedures governed by agencies such as Network Rail. Maintain up to date knowledge of these requirements and any updates, as well as robust knowledge of legal requirements.

Planning management: Responsible for planning the work as instructed by the Responsible Manager (Ground Control diverge from the standard and do not accept SWP requests by the person in charge).

Ground Control, and the role of Planning Manager are required to adhere to relevant internal procedures, industry standards, and NR/L2/OHS/019.

What we`re looking for:

Essential

  • Have suitable and sufficient task and site risk knowledge
  • Hold and maintain the required Sentinel competence for SSOW Planner
  • Hold a relevant track safety competence such as PTS and COSS
  • Have a detailed understanding of the relevant industry standards related to Safe Work Planning
  • Have at least 5 years consistent relevant safety critical planning experience in the rail industry.
  • Experience of working safely within railway worksites and to Railway Standards
  • Strong Systems & IT literacy
  • To maintain professional development and relevant safety critical competencies including periodic assessments for their role.

Desirable

  • Hold and/or be working towards a relevant level of safety qualification: SMSTS, Nebosh etc
  • Have 10 years consistent relevant safety critical planning experience in the rail industry.
  • Hold a full, clean UK driving licence
