As part of Bouygues Construction's Public Works division, VSL International participates in the construction of major technical structures and guarantees their structural safety and durability: transport infrastructure (bridges, tunnels), industrial and energy production structures, and commercial buildings.

VSL's business is based on four areas of expertise:
• Structural systems and technologies
• Civil engineering
• Foundations and soil engineering
• Preservation, structural repairs, renovation and optimization of structures.

VSL has 4,000 employees at 25 locations worldwide (Asia and Oceania, Middle East, Europe, Latin America, Canada).

VSL, part of Bouygues Construction, is a global leader in specialist construction and structural engineering solutions. With expertise spanning structural repairs, post-tensioning, bridge works, and specialist civils, VSL plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing the UK's critical infrastructure.

We are now seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead growth across our Repairs, Civils, and Post-Tensioning (RPBL) business, with a primary focus on the Repairs market. This is a strategic commercial role centred on expanding VSL's presence across multiple sectors including infrastructure, defence, utilities, ports, and other asset-intensive industries.

About the Role

As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for developing and securing new opportunities across the UK, positioning VSL as the contractor of choice for:

  • Structural repairs and refurbishment
  • Bridge strengthening and maintenance
  • Specialist civils solutions
  • Post-tensioning systems (new bridge construction knowledge considered a beneficial advantage)
  • Heavy lifting and complex structural engineering (where relevant)
  • This role sits within our RPBL business, reporting operationally into the relevant leadership team, and is focused solely on VSL's specialist structural and repair capabilities rather than ground engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, consultants, contractors, and asset owners across sectors including infrastructure, defence, utilities, and ports.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities aligned with the RPBL business strategy.
  • Drive early engagement with clients and stakeholders, presenting technical solutions and outlining VSL's capabilities.
  • Build and maintain a structured pipeline of opportunities across Repairs, Civils, and Post-Tensioning.
  • Represent VSL at technical forums, industry events, and pre-construction meetings.
  • Monitor market activity, competitor movements, and emerging programmes of work.
  • Collaborate closely with Tendering, Engineering, and Delivery teams to influence winning bids.
  • Ensure strong visibility of VSL's Repairs and RPBL capabilities within the UK market.

What You Bring

  • Strong experience within structural repairs, bridgeworks, specialist civils, or post-tensioning.
  • Knowledge of new bridge construction and PT systems is an advantage.
  • Understanding of UK procurement, frameworks, and stakeholder networks.
  • Experience within a specialist contractor or major civils contractor.
  • Demonstrated success in work winning, pre-construction, or business development.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related technical field (preferred).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical solutions clearly.
  • A natural relationship-builder with strong commercial mindset and persistence.

Why Join VSL?

  • Be part of a leading global engineering organisation with strong UK presence.
  • Work at the heart of a growing RPBL business with strategic importance.
  • Influence major repair, strengthening, and structural refurbishment projects nationwide.
  • Join a collaborative, innovative, and technically strong business.

Significant opportunities for career development and impact.

Interested? Apply now and let's build the great structures of tomorrow together!
