What is the job?We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Transport Planning Manager to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will lead a team of 6 Transport Planners and oversee the strategic planning, scheduling, and execution of transport operations for a fleet of 105 trucks. You will be accountable for maximizing operational efficiency, ensuring compliance with regulations, and driving revenue growth within a budget of GBP 20 million.

Working Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6 Transport Planners, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Transport Planning: Oversee the daily planning and scheduling of all transport operations to ensure optimal utilisation of the fleet, minimising costs and maximizing revenue.
  • Fleet Management: Manage a fleet of 105 trucks, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, safety standards, and maintenance schedules.
  • Budget Management: The planning manager plays an important part in the delivery of a GBP 20 million transport revenue target, identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing strategies to maximise profitability.
  • Performance Monitoring: Analyse and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement in delivery performance, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and senior management, to ensure alignment and effective communication regarding transport plans and objectives.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all transport activities comply with relevant legislation, health and safety guidelines, and company policies.
  • Technology Utilisation: Leverage transport management software and other digital tools to enhance planning efficiency, route optimisation, and real-time decision-making.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve any transport-related issues, disruptions, or customer complaints promptly and effectively.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Transport Planning Manager or similar role within the logistics/transportation industry.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team of planners or coordinators.
  • Demonstrable experience managing a fleet of vehicles, preferably trucks, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Profit and Loss experience, with a track record of managing revenues and cost control within a significant budget.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in transport management systems and planning software.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, transport legislation, and best practices.
