We are looking for:

A Pilot Plant Manager to supervise and maintain routine operations in the pilot plant facility at our Cramlington site.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Chemistry / or an equivalent degree Evidence of good academic achievement (Desirable) or HNC/HND level qualification
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience gained within a chemical production or process manufacturing facility
  • Experience of working within a GMP facility
  • Experience of working in a high paced environment
  • Evidence of ability to effectively contribute to multi-disciplinary scientific teams
  • Awareness of cGMP
  • Awareness of EHS regulatory systems
  • Good scientific judgement
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
  • People management skills
  • Planning and Project Management
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Plan and support routine operations and ensure the facility is fully functional to support project work.
  • Coordinate and communicate directly with all support functions (Quality, Analytical and Facilities) for routine planning, compliance and maintenance activities.
  • Supervise and direct a team of process chemistry technicians
  • Translate departmental objectives into clearly defined personal goals and objectives and associated activities for direct reports to ensure delivery of high-quality results.
  • Work with site leadership and commercial functions to host client visits / audits of the pilot plant.
  • Work with site leadership to plan and support maintenance and capital investment activities.
  • Ensure the pilot plant operates in a GMP environment, carry out tasks and complete documentation in a compliant manner.
  • Ensure the plant is meticulously prepared to eliminate potential for contamination and ensure that equipment is maintained and cleaned.
  • Ensure high standards of safety, housekeeping, hygiene and quality in the pilot plant environment.
  • Ensure that documentation of processes and operations is in place and meticulously completed such that a detailed understanding of the manufacturing process is recorded and enables further improvements, where required or possible.
  • Transfer knowledge of the pilot plant operation through training and other forms of support to Chemistry staff and deploy such knowledge for the purpose of continuous improvement in working practices and processes.
  • Work with the chemistry teams in support of process improvement / trouble shooting activities.
  • Participate and contribute to the selection process of new Pilot Plant team members and take responsibility for the personal development and performance management of all team members, such that collectively and individually, potential is fully realised.

Our Cramlington site, just north of Newcastle, has an established history of cGMP

manufacturing services for an array of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), ranging from pilot scale to commercial metric ton scale. The Cramlington Site has more than 100 cubic meters reactor commercial capacity and has been inspected and approved by the MHRA, FDA and other regulatory authorities. The site operates from small scale in the laboratory through to large manufacturing scale. It also offers chemistry and analytical development service.
