Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Post Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manage all technical activities of the Aseptic Unit, including stock control, receipt of prescription/orders, technical aspects of cytotoxic, monoclonal antibody, parenteral nutrition, aseptic manufacturing and dispensing, costing, delivery of prepared items, and allocation of staff within the Aseptic Unit.
2. Actively work with nursing and medical teams to ensure timely supply of patient treatment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
3. Ensure safe practice and risk management principles are adhered to within aseptic services and where necessary, work closely with Quality Control and the Accountable Pharmacist to achieve this.
4. Ensure the quality and safety of medicines prepared in the Aseptic Unit, under the advice of the Authorised Pharmacist responsible at the time for aseptic services.
5. Advise clinical staff on matters relating to aseptically dispensed items, including reference to patient records retained within the department, when required.
6. Produce and maintain quality standards, records and procedures and be responsible for ensuring all documentation for the Aseptic Unit including Pharmacy SOPs and worksheets are maintained and updated appropriately.
7. Participate in regular audits and external inspections of aseptic services by the MHRA and Regional Quality Assurance specialists.
8. Ensure that the Aseptic Unit and all associated equipment is maintained in safe working order. Ensure that the appropriate cleaning, disinfection, monitoring and validation of equipment and clean room facility is maintained.
9. Ensure operational plans for the pharmacy aseptic services e.g. rotas are arranged in advance by the Senior Technician Aseptic Services or delegate. To have oversight of potential problems, ensuring they are resolved appropriately and in a timely manner.
10. Liaise with the Aseptic Services Accountable Pharmacist, ensuring all aspects of the pharmacy aseptic service are operating safely, monitoring capacity and responding to service needs appropriately.
11. Ensure all staff working within Aseptic Services undertake and complete training to the required standard, with respect to aseptic procedures, safe systems of working and GMP. Ensure all operators undertake the necessary revalidations. Undertake regular reviews with the Senior Technician Aseptic Services to obtain performance and compliance reports, initiating action plans where necessary. This includes mandatory training compliance across the team.
12. Support the Associate Director of Pharmacy - Cancer, Technical Services and Clinical Trials with reviewing establishment and skill mix of the Aseptic Pharmacy workforce, proactively reviewing and reporting recommendations. Support and lead on relevant recruitment.
13. Support the creation and maintenance of Aseptic Services KPI's, being responsible for the accountability of performance against these metrics.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
