People, Risk and Governance Lead

Role Description

This is a part-time job share position with 14- or 17.5-hour work week.

In this role, you will support the Chief People & Culture (P&C) Officer and Senior Leadership Team in developing the governance and risk management function. You will oversee the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of operational risks, while also setting and managing the audit framework.

You will ensure compliance with the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR) by leading and monitoring supporting processes. In addition, you will coordinate key regulatory and legislative reporting to Group, strengthening governance and operational resilience across the organisation.

This is a hybrid role based in one of the following offices: Bournemouth, Birmingham, Bristol, Guildford, London, or Manchester, with the expectation to be on-site two days per week.

You will also be required to attend P&C events, such as the all-day quarterly meeting.

Salary Information

Pay: Circa £62,500 FTE per year. Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

About You

In this role you will be:

  • Delivering a robust risk and governance framework, while promoting a strong risk culture through clear strategy, training, and engagement.
  • Supporting the Chief P&C Officer and Leadership Team in managing operational risks, driving resilience, and ensuring governance remains a priority.
  • Leading risk and control assessments, incident reporting, control testing, and compliance improvements across P&C.
  • Overseeing audit participation and ensuring high-quality delivery of internal and external audit requirements.
  • Monitoring compliance with the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR), including regulatory submissions and role responsibilities.
  • Coordinating People Pillar reporting to Group on key regulations and legislation (e.g., CSRD, German Supply Chain Act, Operational Resilience).
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships internally and externally, while coaching and developing P&C teams to strengthen governance capability.

Essential Skills

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A background in People & Culture and/or Risk Management, with expertise in one or more technical areas.
  • Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, governance requirements, reporting, analysis, and implementation of risk practices.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use P&C data strategically to identify improvements and build risk awareness.
  • Excellent relationship management and influencing skills, with experience engaging stakeholders at all levels and across matrixed environments.
  • Ability to design and deliver learning pathways and provide governance and risk management support to P&C teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to influence at all levels.
