We're looking for a Payroll Administrator to join our team for a 12-month contract. This role is based in Derby and is a hybrid model.

Purpose of the role:

The Payroll Administrator will play a key role in supporting payroll operations and compliance across the business. Working as part of a collaborative team within People Services, the Payroll Administrator position involves handling employee queries, processing data audits, and supporting reporting requirements around pay, tax, absence, and deductions. The Team is structured across four specialist areas, and you'll work closely with payroll experts and offshore colleagues in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.

As a Payroll Administrator, you will:

  • Support end-to-end payroll processing, including pre- and post-payroll reports and data audits.
  • Manage employee queries and update records for starters, leavers, absence, and family leave.
  • Monitor statutory and voluntary deductions, ensuring compliance with legislation and company policy.
  • Maintain accurate payroll data using Excel, internal systems, and employee service platforms.
  • Liaise with the People Services team, taxation, and business areas to ensure timely and accurate payroll delivery.
  • Assist in ensuring SLA and KPI targets are met, contributing to continuous service improvement.
  • Stay up to date with PAYE, National Insurance, and other payroll-related legislative changes.

What we require from the candidate:

  • GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English.
  • Payroll qualification or relevant training is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in payroll or administration, ideally within HR, finance, or accounts.
  • Strong Excel Skills and confident using systems such as ServiceNow (SAP experience beneficial but not essential).
  • Basic financial knowledge and understanding of statutory and voluntary payroll deductions.
  • High level of numeracy and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Customer-focused mindset with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a team-oriented, fast-paced shared services environment.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and committed to continuous services improvement.
