About The Role

Role Purpose

The Pastoral Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the personal, social, and emotional development of pupils at Compass Community School Hampshire. The postholder will lead on behaviour, attendance, and parent/carer engagement, ensuring a nurturing, structured environment where every pupil can thrive. As Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), the Pastoral Manager will also play a vital role in safeguarding and child protection. In addition, they will act as a National PRICE Trainer for Compass Education, embedding consistent, safe practice across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Pastoral Leadership

  • Lead on behaviour management across the school, ensuring consistent systems, restorative approaches, and proactive strategies.
  • Monitor and improve attendance, working with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to secure strong outcomes.
  • Act as the main contact for parent/carer liaison, building positive relationships to support pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff in managing challenging behaviour and supporting pupils' social/emotional growth.
  • Be a key nominated trained first aider.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), supporting the DSL with statutory safeguarding duties.
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns, record and report appropriately, and liaise with external agencies as required.
  • Contribute to embedding a strong safeguarding culture across the school.

Training & Development

  • Serve as a National PRICE Trainer for Compass Education, delivering training in positive behaviour management and safe handling approaches.
  • Support the professional development of staff through training, coaching, and feedback.

Wider School Contribution

  • Contribute to Senior Leadership Team discussions, policy development, and school improvement planning.
  • Promote Compass Community values and ethos, ensuring high expectations for all pupils.
  • Lead initiatives that promote wellbeing, resilience, and inclusion.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience of working in an SEMH or specialist school environment.
  • Strong knowledge of behaviour management, attendance strategies, and pastoral care.
  • Safeguarding and child protection experience, with up-to-date training.
  • First aid trained.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships.
  • National PRICE Trainer status (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Resilient, reflective, and committed to improving outcomes for young people.

Desirable

  • Leadership or management experience in education.
  • Knowledge of statutory frameworks for attendance, safeguarding, and SEND.
  • Experience contributing to school improvement.

Salary & Conditions

  • Salary: £40,811
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Location: Compass Community School Hampshire (Based at Woking site but travelling to Second school site in Alton)
