This role offers an opportunity to be part of the dynamic radiotherapy team at UCLH. The post-holder will be a core member of the Radiotherapy Services team leading on the delivery of the transfer of the paediatric services programme. Leading on ensuring that all staff and partners in the programme deliver agreed actions and deadlines and work with divisions, corporate services (including finance) in the development of business cases for the programme. UCLH is seeking a committed individual with the energy and focus to continue building on the existing service of excellence.

The post holder will ensure that their work delivers a high-quality service that is patient focused, maximises the potential of all available resources and fosters an atmosphere of innovation and continuous improvement in accordance with Clinical Governance standards. The post holder will work to ensure that the programme develops in line with key Trust Priorities.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be a core member of the Radiotherapy Services team leading on the delivery of the transfer of the paediatric services programme.
Leading on ensuring that all staff and partners in the programme deliver agreed actions and deadlines.
Work with divisions, corporate services (including finance) in the development of business cases for the programme.
Establishing effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners in the delivery of the programme providing management support and advice.
Leadership of staff within the transfer of the paediatric services programme including leadership and management trainees
Being a lead strategic link person for a designated division/s to support the development and delivery of the programme priorities.
Ensuring robust governance and risk management processes in relation to the services within the remit of the role.
Articulate a vision of the programme and communicate to all staff disciplines what has to be done to achieve this vision.
Dissemination of information to medical, clinical physics, radiography staff, and other healthcare professionals both in the internally within the trust, externally to all stakeholders, as well as nationally and internationally via presentations and publications.

Radiotherapy services at UCLH are delivered across two departments. The Trust is one of two sites delivering PBT across the NHS. The photon department has around 2000 patients accessing the service annually, 10% of which is paediatric and teenage and young adults (TYA) The PBT department will see around 650 NHS patients and about 200 privately funded patients a year.

The PBT service is one of two national referral centres for paediatric, TYA and adult cohorts, the paediatric and TYA referrals into the photon service are local as well a national referrals from Oxford, Southampton and will now include the South Thames cohort of paediatric patients, which is estimated to be an additional 65 patients per annum.

The department delivers radiotherapy services for a broad spectrum of cancers comprising of common cancers as well as specialist treatments including a paediatric and adolescent workload, brachytherapy and isotope work, total body irradiation and sarcoma, neurological and head and neck radiotherapy. The department is delivering SABR treatment, as well as being designated as the main centre in the south for cranial SRS. There are also close relationships with the academic department in nuclear medicine and the academic department of oncology, which has a major research interest in targeted molecular radiotherapy.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree or equivalent (or able to demonstrate equivalent level of equivalent experience)
  • Health Profession Council (HPC) registration as a therapy radiographer.
  • Extensive knowledge of health care services

Desirable criteria

  • Masters qualification or equivalent (or working towards same)
  • Clinical experience in Radiotherapy.
  • Participation in audit/clinical governance.
  • Knowledge and experience of project management using tools

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Work in a large and complex organisation (public or private)
  • Relevant programme management experience with track record of delivery
  • Experience of designing and executing and managing complex, large-scale projects
  • Use excellent communication skills to relate confidently across all professional boundaries to Trust staff and external contacts.
  • Knowledge and understanding gained through experience of • Techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling programmes • Problem solving techniques • Change management techniques • Quality improvement techniques • Stakeholder management and communications • Risk management and issue resolution • Experience of service redesign and development
