Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The PACS & RIS Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the PACS and RIS equipment including workflow, archiving, auto-routing and other related activities. This position requires related clinical experience or good knowledge of Imaging Departments with a clear understanding of the working Radiology environment. The individual will work closely with department managers and supervisors to ensure proper operation of DICOM image transfer into the PACS as well as network transmission, RIS validation and exceptions handling.

The post requires complex analysis of large data sets with interpretation to resolve complex errors and corrections.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Diploma/degree level in IT, or have equivalent relevant Radiological experience and commitment to ongoing education and training.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Ability to analyse situations and information in order to resolve problems e.g. user's computer problems, system errors, application problems, network issues and data errors.
  • To be aware of the Data Protection Act and implement changes to working practice with regard to any newly introduced legislation.
  • The ability to input and manipulate data information into the computers databases

Desirable criteria

  • Have the ability to interpret data, create reports and maintain the PACS & RIS Service Record systems.
  • Have the ability to test, support and suggest developments to the Trusts interfaces to ensure system compatibilit

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with NHS computer systems
  • In-depth specialist knowledge of the Trusts computer systems and Radiology software systems

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications to an advanced level, with excellent PC skills
  • Ability to interpret data, create reports and maintain the PACS & RIS Service Record systems.
  • Ability to accurately work under pressure and to tight time scales
