About the role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Package Manager to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17km of complex Highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme-wide, industry leading approach to carbon reduction.

Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live work and play.

The Package Manager is responsible for the successful delivery, quality, and performance of assigned works packages within the Lower Thames Crossing M25 Diversion scope.

What you'll be doing

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

  • Maintain a safe working environment, strictly enforcing health and safety regulations, best practices, and the Construction Phase Plan.
  • Champion the Beyond Zero Harm initiative, actively promoting workforce wellbeing.

Programme Management

  • Plan and coordinate all self-delivered and subcontracted works, ensuring resources and training are in place before commencement.
  • Drive progress to meet or surpass project programme dates, monitoring weekly progress and identifying opportunities and risks.

Project Management

  • Build, motivate, and develop a high-performing team to achieve project objectives.
  • Hold regular meetings with subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure collaboration and effective communication.
  • Coordinate all site activities to maintain workflow and resolve issues efficiently.

Engineering & Design Management

  • Oversee the communication and understanding of design information, ensuring adherence to construction methodologies.
  • Coordinate with the design team for technical queries and support engineers in best practices, including training

Procurement

  • Prepare technical scopes for tenders, support pre-award meetings, and assist with requisitions for materials and resources.
  • Remain accountable for timely and compliant delivery of procurement packages.

Who we're looking for

  • Significant experience in a similar role, ideally on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of construction regulations, best practices, and NEC 3/4 contracts.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Engineering or Construction Management qualification (degree or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Fit for work medical assessment.
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • Pre-start drug and alcohol test.
  • BPSS Security Clearance (arranged by the project Security Manager; requires a basic Disclosure and Barring Service check).
