Manage a cross-functional team to develop new gauge products that align with the roadmaps of all Vacuum Technique Divisions ensuring that all major projects are completed within 18 months of their inception. The scope of delivery includes product development as well as the commissioning of production test equipment.

Main Responsibilities
• Maintain awareness of Vacuum Technique Divisional product roadmaps and identify bid opportunities for the Technology Team within the Eastbourne Product Company NPI and manufacturing.
• Work with the team to deliver safe, right first-time NPI solutions to the agreed project timescales, project costs and final product costs. Champion the voice of the customer within the team and beyond.
• Strengthen the NPI Team demonstrating strong leadership to ensure effective recruitment and selection, objective setting, and development for a multi-skilled engineering team.
• Identify the future talent pipeline including succession planning. Manage by coaching, mentoring and developing the team to solve ever more ambitious challenges.
• Drive innovation, identifying IP opportunities for new products linking in particularly with the NTV team. Also identify threats and maintain awareness of competitor and wider industry solutions.
• Ensure that the team has a clear production testing strategy for NPI introduction and develop further strategies to enable quick response times to issues discovered on the production line or in the field.
• Ensure that the NPI cost-centre budget and headcount are appropriately managed, with agreed forecasts and spend that is monitored and reported against target. Assist the Engineering Manager in the ongoing management and development of the Engineering team as well as meeting the site OGSM, Objectives, Goals, Strategies and Measures. Establish an annual OGSM for the NPI team.
• Ensure the appropriate level of technical governance is in place both in terms of safety, design quality and long-term reliability.

To suceed, you will need:
• Bachelor or Masters degree (or equivalent) in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Knowledge of the fundamentals of electronics design both analogue and high-speed digital as well as direct experience in applying the principles to one or more electronics products.
• Experience developing product development processes and able to make recommendations for improvement.
• Must be a good communicator and have excellent fluency in spoken and written English. Ability to make decisions based on a knowledge of the business and an understanding of the business impact. Must be able to inspire and motivate the team and demonstrate strong influencing skills.
• Significant experience working in a global engineering environment and working with international teams to deliver electronics and product solutions. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary design environment. Ability to set the environment to encourage a thriving and productive atmosphere.
• Significant experience working in a regulated, compliance-driven industry. Strong understanding on product safety and compliance.
• Experience in a project management role using both Waterfall and Agile (SCRUM) frameworks.
• Cross-functional team management experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
• CEng, Chartered Engineer, would be preferred.

Scope of Role:
• The job is involved in all stages of the electronics engineering lifecycle from requirements capturing to release validation and approval.
• The Eastbourne Product Company potentially serves all six Vacuum Technique Divisions: Scientific Vacuum, Industrial vacuum, Semicon, Semicon Service, Vacuum Technique Service and Semi-Chamber.
• The role requires close interaction with Divisional level Engineering Managers and Marketing / Product Managers, as well as with peers at some other Product Companies, e.g. Engineering Managers, Quality Managers etc.
• There will be some need to travel to UK & European locations, and maybe very occasionally to Asia or US locations, e.g. to other Vacuum Technique sites, key suppliers and, possibly, customers.
• The role is based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, UK.
• Direct reports: typical 10-15.
• Total budget accountability: Up to $1.5 million.
