Volunteering for #TeamNP
Our purpose at Team NP is simple: to keep people safe and to fight crime. But it takes more than officers and staff to do the job - that's where our 200 volunteers come in.
We are one of the largest police forces in England, therefore we need a diverse range of skills and experience to deliver outstanding service to our communities. We are very proud of the commitment and dedication that all our volunteers bring, and we wouldn't be the force we are today without them.
In addition to the positive impact volunteering can have on others, there are plenty of benefits for our volunteers too!
- Enhance your CV - impress new employers with your volunteering experience and commitment.
- Make a difference - give back to your community.
- Personal growth and development - gaining transferable skills and confidence.
- Gain insight into policing - exposure to Northumbria Police ''behind the scenes''
- Attend events - opportunity to attend exciting events up and down the country.
- Meet new people.
The Role
Northumbria Victim and Witness Service provides support to victims of crime following a difficult experience.
As a volunteer you could be an essential part of the team, providing longer term emotional and practical support to victims of crime in your local community. In your role you would:
- Provide support via telephone and have face to face engagement with victims of crime in the community - this could range from one off contact, to support through the criminal justice system, and beyond.
- Be a listening ear and provide emotional support and care, based on the individual needs of victims.
- Liaise with our Support Officers to ensure the right support services are in place and provide updates regarding information shared, support provided, and outcomes achieved.
- Develop your knowledge of local and national services, utilising and contributing new organisations to our directory of services where appropriate.
- Carry out your role with a non-judgemental attitude, upholding our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policy.

- You'll also need basic computer skills.
We'll train and support you with the rest.
Training
You don't need prior experience to volunteer in this role, but you'll need to commit to 4 hours per week to undertake training. This will help to ensure that you are fully supported and equipped to undertake the role.
Once you have completed training, we'd ask that you commit at least 2 hours per week, but as with any volunteer role, we'd be happy to talk about flexibility.
