Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • UK NMC Registered Nurse in adult general nursing
  • Completion of a post registration course in sexual health and/or contraceptive and reproductive healthcare or willing to work towards
  • Experience of recent working in a sexual health (GUM/CRH/HIV) service in the UK as band 5 or above
  • Understanding of confidentiality

Desirable criteria

  • Completion of a recognised teaching/mentoring qualification
  • Experience with partner notification
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Completion of a post registration course/further CPD courses
  • Evidence of training in microscopy
  • Research experience
  • Experience/ skills to fit and remove Sub Dermal Implants - or willing to train
  • Nurse Prescriber or willing to train towards this.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • An understanding of issues that affect individuals diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infections including HIV
  • Ability to communicate effectively with service users and team members
  • Ability to keep accurate and legible notes.
  • Be able to assess and treat patients with complex presentations, seeking support where necessary.
  • Ability to be organised and take responsibility for caseload management
  • Ability to work often under pressure, making safe decisions within Trust/Directorate policies and protocols
  • Ability to communicate with service users where there is barriers to communication, and service users from a wide range of backgrounds.

Please note if a DBS is applicable for the position then a charge will be deducted from your first salary or upfront cost if a staff bank position.
