AustralianSuper, the largest pension fund in Australia and listed as a top 20 largest pension fund globally, are recruiting a new role, Principal, Global NED Program , in our Investments team based in London. This role plays a leading role in the implementation of the private market strategies by taking primary responsibility for delivering a highly effective and engaging Non-Executive Director (NED) Program across the UK and US offices in support of the Fund and our International growth plans, supporting our multi location international business.

Purpose:

AustralianSuper nominates NEDs to the Board of companies that it owns directly in its infrastructure, real estate and private equity portfolios.

The primary accountability of the Principal, Global NED Program is to drive the development and implementation of a global NED Program that increases value to members, the AustralianSuper Investments team and participants in the NED Program.

This role, working with the Principal, Global NED Program in Australia sets the strategic direction of the global NED Program. The role includes responsibility for executing;

  • the international NED network strategy,
  • international NED recruitment,
  • international NED induction & education activities in the UK and US markets.

Working together with your Australian based counterpart you will also oversight implementation of the procedures governing the NED and Senior Advisor program, including recruitment, nominations, contracting, onboarding and performance assessment in accordance with internal policies, and managing the liaison with the relevant approval committees and delegates.

In addition to attending and organising/facilitating events, education sessions and developing associated platforms and resources to facilitate high levels of engagement and investment outcomes, you will also be focussed on continuous improvement to ensure a positive and frictionless experience for NEDs.

In partnership with the infrastructure, real estate & private equity teams, you will be accountable for:

  • NED Program strategy -collaborate on the overarching NED program strategy and develop the UK/US roadmap, identifying key deliverables and success measures for endorsement by Investments senior leadership team.
  • NED program delivery -
  • build the NED network;
  • attract and recruit high calibre and skilled NEDs;
  • deliver an engaging program of events and resources for NEDs to enhance performance and the reputation of the Fund.
  • build the frameworks, policies and processes to efficiently implement and administer the NED program.
  • NED program ambassador - full ownership and accountability for the NED program with internal and external stakeholders and current and potential NEDs in the UK and US markets.
  • Relationships - develop and maintain relationships with NEDs, key internal stakeholders and global vendors to advance the interests of the NED program in the UK and US markets. Develop strong relationships with private markets Investment teams and other teams across the Fund (ESG, Fund Services, Corporate Affairs and Investment Relations).
  • Value-add activities - work with the NED program team to develop strategies and frameworks to extract further value from the NED network and program, including origination, advisory and mentoring programs, and develop a NED alumni program.

The candidate profile we'd like to apply - noting we don't expect that all candidates will fulfill all these experiences.

  • Experience (12+ years) at an executive level in stakeholder management, communications & marketing, program management, strategy consulting and/or operational roles, preferably within private markets.
  • Ability to engage with and establish relationships with senior stakeholders both externally (eg board directors) and internally.
  • Ability to drive results and outcomes and respond dynamically within a growing and changing environment.
  • Ability to engage with asset teams to drive process improvements and positive outcomes.
  • Strategic and creative thinking skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Advanced use of MS Office products especially Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
