MRI Senior Radiographer

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will undertake a broad range of MRI examinations, including complex and specialist studies, ensuring imaging is tailored to clinical indications and patient presentation. You will be expected to assess image quality in real time, identify abnormalities requiring urgent escalation, and adapt protocols to optimise diagnostic outcomes.

You will maintain advanced knowledge of MRI physics, techniques and technology, supporting protocol development and standardisation across the service. This includes working with radiologists, physicists and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure consistency in imaging quality and reporting expectations.

A key aspect of the role is ensuring compliance with MRI safety governance. You will apply Local Rules and national guidance in daily practice, supporting safe patient screening processes, safe use of equipment within the MR environment, and escalation of any safety concerns. You will contribute to maintaining a strong safety culture within the department.

You will support the coordination of clinical workflow, prioritising urgent and inpatient activity where required, and contributing to the effective utilisation of MRI capacity across the department and mobile services.

The role includes contributing to staff development through supervision, informal teaching and sharing of best practice, as well as supporting new starters and students in developing confidence within the MRI environment.

You will also contribute to audit, service evaluation and implementation of improvements, supporting the ongoing development of the MRI service in line with Trust objectives.
