MEP Director - Data Centres

Role Purpose & Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and expertise on all aspects of M&E design, engineering, and commissioning for data centre projects.
Design Review & Approval: Review and approve M&E designs, specifications, and drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and best practices.
Technical Due Diligence: Conduct technical due diligence assessments of potential data centre sites, evaluating M&E infrastructure, power availability, and cooling solutions.
Project Management: Oversee the M&E aspects of data centre projects, including managing budgets, schedules, and resources.
Commissioning & Testing: Lead and manage the commissioning and testing of M&E systems, ensuring proper functionality and performance.
Vendor Management: Manage relationships with M&E vendors, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring quality workmanship and timely delivery.
Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks associated with M&E systems.
Innovation & Technology: Stay abreast of the latest M&E technologies and trends in the data centre industry, recommending and implementing innovative solutions.
Energy Efficiency & Sustainability: Promote energy-efficient and sustainable design practices in data centre projects.
Client Management: Provide technical expertise and support to clients, building and maintaining strong relationships.
Reporting & Communication: Prepare and present technical reports, presentations, and other communications to clients and stakeholders.
Team Leadership: Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Business Development: Contribute to business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, and networking within the data centre industry.
Person Specification:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Professional Registration: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in M&E engineering, with a specific focus on data centre projects.
Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of M&E systems, including power distribution, cooling systems, fire protection, and building management systems.
Design & Engineering Skills: Strong design and engineering skills, with the ability to review and approve M&E designs and specifications.
Project Management Skills: Proven project management skills, including the ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources.
Commissioning Experience: Experience in commissioning and testing M&E systems.
Vendor Management Skills: Experience in managing relationships with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage teams, motivate individuals, and foster a collaborative work environment.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the data centre industry, including market trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements.
Relevant Certifications (desirable): LEED AP, Data Centre Design Professional (DCDP), or other relevant certifications.
