This is a Term Time Only role - Actual Pro Rata Salary = £20,202

We are currently recruiting...

Mentors - to work in secondary schools supporting pupils who need your experience, guidance & advice
Open to - former HM Armed Forces and the spouses/partners of serving and non-serving personnel
Term - time only - a 1-year contract
Training - full training provided & then you'll be placed at a school near you
Team - Talent and Performance Team - People Services at Lancashire County Council

Are you a Veteran, spouse, partner of serving or ex service personnel of HM Armed Forces...are you ready to inspire, mentor and help shape the lives of young people in a school local to you?

Our fantastic and dedicated Mentors provide support through one-to-one sessions with pupils to address barriers affecting their inclusion, attendance, and progression. Our mentors also provide a positive role model for young people who may be facing challenges in their lives both inside and outside school.

What we are searching for...

Charismatic - we are seeking charismatic individuals to become trainee mentors in secondary schools - once trained you will assist in providing advice, guidance and a safe space for young people that need it most - you'll have a naturally engaging personality so approachable, friendly, firm and fair plus able to build a mutual respect with young people - we will need you to have confidence, presence and be persuasive to encourage pupils to fully participate in school life, especially for those who find school the most challenging - we'll need you to be the empathic mentor to guide them and encourage pupil's to aspire and achieve

Cultivate & Mentor As a Mentor, you will create the right environment for each young person to succeed - you will immerse yourself in school life, being present and available throughout the day so at opportune to times to be approached - this will help you to become a champion and advocate for pupils being their voice when they can't use their own - you'll have insight into the local community and use this knowledge to understand the challenges a pupil may encounter, this could be poverty, housing issues, crime or any other life challenges - you'll foster positive relationships, be a listening ear and be the Mentor to provide practical solutions to help remove the barrier's our pupils face - this could include negotiating with teachers, mediating to improve relationships or mentoring pupil's faced with a difficult situation such as family issues, behaviour and more

To be eligible to apply for a place on the programme candidates must be willing to travel to placement in Lancashire and Training in Preston, have served or be the spouse or partners of someone who has served in any branch of the UK Armed Forces as evidenced by discharge certificate or ID Card, hold Level 2 (or equivalent) qualifications in English and Maths, and be skilled in the use of ICT.
