Mechanical Maintenance Instructor/Training Manager

The AWE Skills Academy is looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Instructor/Training Manager who is passionate about developing and nurturing the talents and aspirations of apprentices at the beginning of their career in engineering.

Location - Reading/Basingstoke area

Package - £45,250 - £47,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

As a Mechanical Maintenance Instructor/Training Manager, you will be required to design, plan and deploy training solutions for apprentices during their apprenticeship programme. Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience of working with apprentices and have familiarity with apprenticeships in England. You will be able to apply your technical knowledge, skills and experience in Mechanical maintenance to lead, instruct and assess apprentices during training. You will need to be a great communicator, have effective relationship management skills and the drive and creativity to help ensure that apprentices get the right opportunities at the right time to develop their skills, knowledge and competence.

We are looking for the right candidate to have:

  • National Certificate (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering discipline (related to Mechanical Engineering)
  • Occupational competence in engineering principles and techniques, particularly Mechanical maintenance
  • Proven ability in literacy and numeracy
  • Ability to inspire and lead early career employees
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and able to appeal to a range of audiences from new apprentices to senior management
  • Good influencing skills
  • Great organisational ability and prioritisation skills
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to initiate their own work and have high personal standards
  • Proven team working skills

As part of this role, you must:

  • Have the ability for working with a diverse range of people and grades across the business, particularly young people
  • Be able to access all areas of site to monitor work placements, including radiological areas
  • Be willing to attend off-site events (e.g. meetings, conferences, residential courses, etc.) which may include short periods away from home including overnight stays
  • Be willing to undertake and pass a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Be willing to work in temporary off-site location (OAS, Abingdon) for an interim period to allow for new facility construction

All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
