M&E Manager (Project Engineering) - Environment

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for an M&E Manager (Project Engineering) to join the team at Galliford Try.

As Project Engineer Manager you will be both hands-on, undertaking project engineer duties directly, and required to manage the project engineering team on the Southern Water framework, providing guidance and support as well as reviewing performance/development. The hands-on element involves the coordination and integration of electrical and mechanical (depending on discipline) engineering process and control packages, within civil works, across a programme of water and wastewater treatment projects. This is vital in ensuring that scope is delivered in accordance with the design/specification whilst working with project management, construction, and procurement disciplines as well as the supply chain to develop and manage MEICA packages within cost and schedule targets. Extensive liaison is required with the engineering team including providing technical support during the pre-target cost agreement phase.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management, coordination, deployment, and development of the Project Engineering team
  • Coordinate mechanical/electrical (depending on discipline) technical solutions ensuring compliance with design and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure mechanical electrical and process equipment can be correctly integrated into the civil design
  • Identify, plan and coordinate the engineering interfaces between individual packages and with existing assets and advise Project Managers/Tranche Managers
  • Co-ordinating the execution of mechanical/electrical (depending on discipline) work packages including procurement, engineering design, construction and commissioning activities through all phases of the project
  • Provide technical assurance of mechanical/electrical (depending on discipline) supply chain engineering and coordinate with the engineering team
  • Liaise with PMs, procurement team, QS's and designers to provide timely and efficient mechanical/electrical (depending on discipline) work packages for procurement
  • Understand and implement Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies and Targets
  • Undertake safety inspections and actively promote safe working and behavioural safety
  • Provide an effective mechanical/electrical (depending on discipline) technical interface with and between the design, construction, commissioning teams and the supply chain
  • Report into the project teams on aspects of mechanical/electrical (depending on discipline) delivery including performance and key issues
  • Comply with change control procedures and deal effectively with technical queries
  • Ensure early involvement and engagement with the commissioning teams
  • Attend site meetings, quality reviews and Factory Acceptance Tests
  • Manage discipline project documentation requirements
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement and lessons learnt to improve business improvement
  • Liaison with suppliers and sub-contractors

About You:

  • Ability to create, work with and manage teams of people
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of managing and working in a similar role
  • Engineering / Technical qualification in (HNC minimum or equivalent)
  • Professional accreditation with an industry related body would be advantageous
  • Good understanding of engineering principles
  • Understanding of legislation and standards
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes (or similar engineering industry)
  • Experience of both design and installation stages
  • Commercial and Contractual awareness and working knowledge of NEC conditions of contract
  • Application of CDM Health and Safety duties including understanding and managing design and technical risk
  • CSCS or equivalent Card
  • Good general IT skills including software using MS Excel and document management systems
  • Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to concisely present information
  • Problem-solving and analytical abilities

Our Environment Business provides 'source to sea' asset delivery capability across the UK and Scotland working on both Frameworks and Standalone projects.
