An opportunity has arisen within the Trust to join the Oral and Maxillo Facial (OMFS) Department from November 2024 on a fixed term contract as a .
Applications are invited for full time post for a period of 12 months
We are looking for a dynamic, keen clinician to join the OMFS Team.
The unit provides a comprehensive range of services including cleft, implant rehabilitation, orthognathic surgery and maxillofacial surgery, with the exception of major head and neck oncology. The unit includes a Cone Beam CT scanner and inra-oral scanner.
Completion of BDS or equivalent is a requirement for this Trust post. All applicants must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) or eligible for relevant visa application.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Service
The post holder will work with an extended team to support the two Oral and Maxillofacial Consultants deliver a comprehensive elective and emergency maxillofacial service, supporting the DCTs managing in-patients and emergencies.
In addition to attending the general oral and Maxillofacial outpatient clinics there will be opportunities to attend specialist head and neck oncology clinic and orthognathic clinics.
On average there will be one whole day each week in theatre.
The post holder will not be timetabled for any out of hours on call, there would be opportunities to be involved in the on call for University Hospital Southampton, which provides the regional centre for craniofacial injuries and Head and Neck cancer.
The post would be suitable for someone dually qualified looking to gain some experience before commencing specialist training or a dentally qualified individual wishing further experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Essential criteria
- MRCS/FRCS part 1 (or equivalent)
- Full GDC registration with a licence to practice
- Higher qualification - BSc, MSc etc
Experience/Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- Minimum CT/ST level in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Experience in allied speciality (A&E, General Surgery etc)
- Able to recognise serious illness
- Understand audit principles
Aptitude and Job Motivation
Essential criteria
- Able to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Able to communicate with senior staff
- Able to exercise leadership skills
- Be IT Literate
