Forensic Access is one of the UK's leading Forensic Science companies with over 30 years in the industry. Over recent years the Forensic Access Group has expanded our services portfolio to include digital forensics and cyber security, forensic archaeology and anthropology, and toxicology.

We have built an enviable reputation for our work within the forensic science marketplace, including being one of only three forensic service providers with firearms testing capability, serving a number of long-term, prestigious contracts.

The Role:

We are currently looking to recruit multiple Experienced Firearms Forensic Scientists. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person/s to make a real difference in service delivery and be involved in shaping the future of our Firearms Team within our ambitious company.

We are looking for a number of positions within the Firearms Team, from newly reporting firearms scientists, through to Lead Scientists. We have full and part-time roles, permanent and contract roles available and are open to discussion around flexible working patterns.

All roles will be based at our semi-rural location in South Oxfordshire with consideration given to some element of remote working.

With the classification of submitted firearms to UK legislation a mainstay of the role, other elements of firearm examination are also undertaken including scene and postmortem attendance. We are also looking to the future and making investment in the services we aim to offer. Comparison Microscopy is one of the areas we are planning to develop and would be looking to successful candidates to be instrumental in the direction and development of such endeavours.

Furthermore, the role also includes the opportunity to undertake work for non-police customers and within the criminal defence arena, allowing our scientists to maintain a truly impartial forensic approach.

Key Requirements:

  • Established Firearms Forensic Scientist/s experienced in working for a UK forensic science organisation
  • Competent in the examination and classification or firearms, ammunition and related materials
  • Excellent working knowledge of UK firearms legislation and case law
  • Proven ability to follow standard operating procedures
  • Excellent casework management skills, including the ability to prioritise case work requirements and working to defined deadlines
  • Customer focused, ensuring that the highest standards of customer service are maintained.
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Drive and determination to contribute to the maintenance of UKAS ISO17025 and compliance with the FSR codes and the development of new services.

Essential Skills:

  • Experienced expert witness with relevant court experience
  • Experienced in operational delivery within a forensic science organisation
  • A working knowledge of the requirements of ISO 17025 and the Forensic Regulators Codes of Practice
  • Current UK driving license (location of labs requires ability to drive to work)

Desirable Skills:

  • Competent in shooting incident reconstruction and post-mortem examination delivery
  • Competent in comparison microscopy

Training and Self Development:

Continued development and training support (internal and external providers) will be given to the successful candidate to provide them with the opportunity to progress their career in all aspects of forensic firearms examination, including range-of-fire determination, damage assessment, shooting scene reconstruction and post-mortem attendances.
