About the Role

The Marketing and Business Development Manager will co-manage the strategic and operational focus of the global law firm's London based team, supporting the development of a strategic practice-group focused, market-leading business development and marketing capability. Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategic planning

  • Working with key EMEA based stakeholders to develop marketing and business development strategies for the region
  • Continuously reviewing marketing and business development plans to ensure consistency as well as regional and global alignment
  • Developing best practice and policies for marketing and business development activity and leading by example
  • Monitoring market trends and competitor activity to ensure the region's marketing and advertising approach is tailored and relevant, while remaining differentiated from competitors
  • Tracking and reporting on marketing and business development activities in the region, demonstrating ROI where possible

Profile raising

  • By listening to the markets, identifying opportunities for thought leadership campaigns and playing an active role in the rollout and deployment of campaigns and other profile raising activities
  • Working with the regional events team to ensure the delivery of 'best-in-class events
  • Managing and overseeing practice group awards and league table rankings, including oversight of submission to key directories and high-profile publications for EMEA offices, articulating key messages and sharing best practices
  • Actively engaging with global digital and communications teams to promote relevant offices capabilities using well thought out digital campaigns
  • Identifying, evaluating and overseeing strategic sponsorships and speaking opportunities at conferences and seminars

Client development

  • Proactively working with partners to target and develop clients and ensure alignment with global programmes, including producing client relationship overviews and conducting research
  • Monitoring information related to client and matter feedback, matter experience, client contacts and business development leads to support the growth and development of the EMEA offices

Management and coordination

  • Working together with the London managers to lead and develop the London based marketing and business development team
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the partnership
  • Working closely with marketing and business development colleagues to align and collaborate on go to market strategies and take an active role in supporting the rollout of global client initiatives
  • Playing a key role in ensuring that there is momentum, accountability and sharing of progress amongst key stakeholders
  • Supporting the marketing and business development leadership team in firm wide marketing and business development activities, including taking a strategic lead role on complex projects that may fall outside of the core activities of this position, but require managerial involvement

EXPERIENCE

What You Bring

The successful applicant will have the ability to engage credibly with all members of the organisation with enthusiasm and initiative. They will be able to provide strategic as well as operational support, and be an excellent communicator with good organisational and team player skills. Attention to detail and the ability to handle a consistent and varied workload is essential. The individual's skills and experience will include:

  • An understanding of the Legal Sector, Asset Management and Institutional Financial markets, B2B target audiences and tactics, attention to detail, and exceptional project management skills
  • Legal sector or Big 4 experience is preferred but not essential
  • A professional qualification in a Business or Marketing related field is preferred
  • 8+ years of experience, preferably in professional services with knowledge of the finance / legal industry would be an asset
  • Prior experience in managing/supervising a team
  • Demonstrated experience, ideally gained in a professional services environment, of managing senior stakeholders
  • Decision making and problem solving - the ideal candidate will need to be able to juggle a number of ongoing projects simultaneously with associated deadlines and budgets. The individual should be calm under pressure and think through problem solving both logically and creatively, making decisions in a timely manner, often 'on the job' and deliver quality and quantity
  • Prior experience building high performing teams, training new talent, developing, upskilling and retaining individual contributors
  • Strong relationship skills and the ability to understand and quickly respond to the needs of internal stakeholders
  • A team player with the ability to build relationships within the marketing team both locally and globally.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong project, organisational, time management and administrative skills
