£75-85,000, plus performance related bonus
A long established engineering company that that specialises in automation, robotics, assembly machines, test and inspection for a multitude of market sectors is looking to recruit a new Managing Director to drive the business forward. As well as fully exploiting the current niches in which the company operate you will also be alert for new opportunities and be able to adapt to the ever changing economic environment. The Managing Director will work alongside a highly experienced senior management team as well as being able to draw upon the founder / owner's vast knowledge of the industry.
The initial focus will be on understanding the current state of play within the business, gaining knowledge about the company's resources and capacity as well as the markets in which they operate. From here it is expected that a more strategic approach will be developed, maximising return on the existing client base and order book whilst also investigating new clients and opportunities.
The recruitment of a Managing Director is part of the Owner's exit strategy so the successful applicant must be in this for the long term. The new MD should be prepared to purchase the business, either outright or as part of a wider MBO. Depending on the individual's experience and circumstances, this could take the form of an outright purchase on day 1 or something they build up to over a period of 3-12 months in employment. Whichever way it works, the successful person must be prepared to lead the purchase of the business.
The successful applicant must have a strong background in engineering, preferably with hands on experience within automation. You will be a natural motivator, using your excellent communication skills to engage and influence teams of difference disciplines across the business, from sales and finance through to shop floor staff. At a senior management level, the challenge will be to utilise the considerable operational expertise that each manager possesses, pulling those strands together so that each part of the business is performing to the highest level, therefore maximising the overall company performance. The company have a strong order book and the right person will be able to continue this success and take it to even greater heights.
You should have considerable experience working at a senior manager / director level within a similar SME engineering / manufacturing environment. Natural competencies will include communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving, identifying opportunities and constantly seeking ways to improve.
Based in Worcester, commutable from Birmingham, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Stourbridge, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Kidderminster, Bewdley, Stourport, Hereford, Evesham and Pershore. Salary £75-85,000 plus performance related bonus, commensurate with experience.
