Anglo American's Group Finance division are seeking a Manager, Investor Relations who will provide detailed company specific and peer group comparisons of financial, operational, sustainability and technical analysis both for internal and external use; to develop messaging for presentation of Anglo's strategy and performance externally, to advise on price sensitive information internally and externally, whilst building and maintaining relationships with investors and analysts globally.
Job Description
Key role requirements:
- Build and develop relationships with analysts, global base of institutional shareholders and corporate broking through roadshows with senior management (CEO and CFO), own tier 2 roadshows; hosting ad hoc investor meetings; frontline for queries on financials, operations, strategy and sustainability.
- Ensure smooth running of investor roadshows and conferences for the CEO and CFO; including pre-meeting briefings, support during meetings with detailed questions and seamless logistics.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the IR strategy with SVP of IR.
- Drive the investor relations work programme and contribute strategic oversight to ensure delivery of the short- and longer-term priorities.
- Identify emerging trends in Anglo American's performance and the external environment over both the short and long-term; provide 'outside-in' analysis to ascertain the potential impacts of interrelated pressures on the Group's performance.
- Engage internal stakeholders to maintain a deep understanding of the Group's operational, financial and sustainability performance and shape the external narrative.
- Undertake detailed peer/sector analysis and benchmarking covering operational, financial and sustainability performance; identify improvement opportunities; and engage and influence internal stakeholders to improve the external communication of Anglo American's story.
- Engage internal stakeholders on external perspectives and "outside-in" analysis to inform as well as influence internal priorities. Support the SVP of IR in similar engagements with the ELT.
- Provide insight to senior internal stakeholders and the wider organisation on market perception of Anglo American and highlight opportunities for improvement.
- Regular engagement across Anglo American to develop a deep understanding of priority initiatives and their contribution to delivering the Group's strategy and identify appropriate opportunities.
- Drive improvements in communication of the Group's external narrative by enhancing the Group's website in collaboration with Corporate Relations and building additional resources to target specific investor needs.
- Review RNS' and press releases to ensure clarity, impact and alignment with the Anglo American investment case.
- Project lead for analyst and investor site visits to develop an experience, with accompanying comprehensive external materials and messaging, that achieves the strategic goals of the trip.
- Develop presentation slides, messaging and associated scripts to be used by the CEO and CFO at results presentations, investor conferences and ad-hoc investor meetings.
- Develop presentation slides, messaging and script plus other communication materials for transactions such as acquisitions, disposals, mergers and demergers including for associated capital market events.
- Responsible for delivery of the quarterly production report, including supporting analysis.
- Ensure market guidance is set appropriately reflecting risks and opportunities to performance and track internal performance against this guidance to highlight emerging threats to senior internal stakeholders such as the SVP of IR, CFO and CEO.
- Develop understanding of analysis models and support analysts' modelling of Anglo American.
- Contribute to the preparation of the Annual reporting suite and Interim reports.
- Oversee and support development and maintenance of in-house financial models to enable clear and concise communication of the Anglo American investment case.
- Collaborate with your wider finance team in developing best in class operational, financial and sustainability reporting and metrics.
- Support Group Treasury in engagements with debt investors and ratings agencies.
- Prepare responses to shareholder letters and emails covering a broad range of issues.
- Accountable for overseeing the seamless coordination of internal and external ESG activities across the IR team.
- Provide cover as required across a range of other processes including insightful preparation of analysis for the IR board report, analyst consensus tracking, modelling etc to ensure that the IR team as a whole is achieving its objectives.
Financial
- Accountable for development of the Investor Relations budgets and outlooks.
- Accountable for monitoring monthly costs against budget and either address, or advise the SVP of Investor Relations of any variances of note.
- Accountable for identification of opportunities for improved cost management and either address these, or raise them with the SVP of Investor Relations, as appropriate.
Qualifications
Formal Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- CFA or other Finance qualification highly desirable but not essential.
Technical skills / knowledge requirements:
- Knowledge of Financial and equity markets
- Comprehension of price sensitive information and consequences of potential mis-use
- Knowledge of Complex group structures and financial consolidations
- An understanding of Anglo American's operating, financial and sustainability performance, with a deep understanding of opportunities and risks at a business and operational level
- Deep understanding of the mining industry and mining practices, supported by relevant business unit experience
- Understanding of geopolitics across mining jurisdictions.
Technical skills:
- Define plans, forecasts and reports to inform the business and drive stakeholder activity
- Apply investment valuation approaches and interpret findings and other information
- Interrogate historical and forecast operational, financial and sustainability data to identify trends and communicate performance
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of project management tools and their application, and is able to apply in small project environments
- Extensive investor relations experience at a FTSE 100 company or relevant experience in a combination of IR and sell or buy side experience is helpful but not essential
- Detailed skills in financial analysis and modelling
- Messaging expertise
- Copy-writing skills with regards to the preparation of press release and annual report copy
- Presentation skills for internal meetings with management and meetings with external stakeholders
- Script-writing and powerpoint skills for internal and external presentations
