Our team of employment lawyers (sitting within in the UK Office of the General Counsel) is responsible for advising the firm in relation to all UK employment and people related matters, ensuring the provision of high quality, commercially sound, practical and prompt legal advice.

We are looking for a talented legal counsel (in-house experience a significant plus) to advise on the full range of contentious and non-contentious people related legal matters.

The role requires that you:

  • Operate collaboratively as part of a highly skilled team of (currently 5) employment lawyers;
  • Provide first class legal advice on a broad variety of people matters including: contractual agreements, corporate transactions, restructures and business shaping, disputes, grievances, disciplinary matters, internal policies and procedures, compensation and benefits, whistleblowing, equality and diversity initiatives, restrictive covenants, terminations. This would include managing procedures and claims (internal, ACAS, Employment Tribunal);
  • Are highly responsive and collaborative working closely on matters and projects to enable a seamless service to your internal customers;
  • Partner with a wide network of customers across the firm including our HR teams and the wider Risk Community, on employment and people related matters;
  • Advise on legal aspects of major people related projects/initiatives;
  • Proactively identify, address and manage legal risk issues arising on people matters;
  • Support the employment lawyers team generally on data gathering and reporting, supporting with materials for case updates and maintaining best practice, and delivering training to our stakeholders.

You will have the following experience:

  • Experienced, UK qualified employment lawyer
  • Experienced in a wide range of contentions and non-contentious work, across advisory, corporate support and litigation
  • Some prior in-house experience (e.g. secondments) preferred but not essential
  • Proactive and with a problem solving attitude, able to take ownership of your own matters, with a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to build connections and trust
  • Ability to collaborate across our business with people and teams at all levels
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Mature and discreet, with proven ability to handle sensitive information and situations
  • Alignment with and behaviour consistent with our Shared Values
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Flexible approach and ability to learn new areas quickly
  • A team player who can work collaboratively with the rest of the OGC team
  • Competent with IT packages such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Personal independence

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm). Our hybrid working policy

You'll be based in London with hybrid working. Our hybrid model enables our people to collaborate, connect and innovate in both a virtual and physical capacity. As well as remote working, you'll attend your local office, virtual collaboration spaces and client sites, depending on the requirements of the role.
