We are looking for an experienced economist to join our Economic Advisory team. This team has grown rapidly over the last few years and has emerged as one of the leading economics practices in the UK, having advised on many of the country's most important and high-profile questions. Our Economic Advisory team comprises around 60 economists in the UK, covering Public Sector, Technology, Media and Telecoms, Infrastructure, and Financial Services sectors, both from a microeconomics and a macroeconomics perspective. It is part of Deloitte's Global Economic Advisory network.
Our team delivers impact in a range of ways, including the economics of strategy, policy and regulation, impact assessment and appraisal, funding and financing, evaluation, forecasting and modelling, pricing and incentives, and competition and disputes. Our technical skills in these areas are combined with Deloitte's deep industry knowledge, for an impactful and unique package to help our clients deliver their mission and vision.

Defence, Security and Justice is at the heart of our Economic Advisory team's offer, and has experienced strong growth in recent years alongside teams across the firm in this strategic sector. As such, this opportunity is for a Manager role, focused on Defence, Security and Justice clients, helping them to keep the UK safe, secure, and just, whilst supporting economic prosperity.
The successful candidate will have a Masters in Economics, and proven experience in:
- Working as a professional economist in the Defence, Security or Justice context, within or for government departments;
- Undertaking economic analysis of relevant strategy and policy issues, in line with the principles of HMT's Green Book.
- Leading projects;
- Supporting leadership in the running of teams or the wider business/organisation;
- Collaborating across organisations or teams;
Connect to your skills and professional experience
Some of our projects require security clearance. All applicants must therefore be willing and eligible to apply for and obtain UK security clearance to Security Check (SC) and/or Developed Vetting (DV) level, if not an existing clearance holder.
We are also interested in experience of:
- Business case development;
- Cost-benefit analysis, using mixed methods approaches;
- Modelling in line with Aqua Book principles;
- Undertaking economic contribution studies;
- Developing logic models, theories of change, and evaluations in line with Magenta Book principles.
As part of the role we would also expect :
- Application of your skills and experience to develop novel and bespoke analytical approaches, often in the context of imperfect evidence and data;
- Managing a varied mix of engagements;
- Business development through writing proposals to prospective clients;
- Developing solutions through debate and discussion in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams and with senior stakeholders;
- Continuing with your professional development throughout your career;
- Willingness to travel domestically/internationally for brief periods;
- Managing and developing diverse teams within an inclusive team culture, where people are recognised for their contribution.

Personal independence
Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm).
