Connect to your career at Deloitte

Deloitte drives progress. Using our vast range of expertise, that covers audit, risk advisory, and consulting services across tax, legal, business, technology and corporate finance, we help our clients become leaders wherever they choose to compete. To do this, we invest in outstanding people. We build teams of future thinkers, with diverse talents and backgrounds, and empower them all to reach for and achieve more.

What brings us all together at Deloitte? It's how we approach the thousands of decisions we make every day. How we behave, our beliefs and our attitudes. In other words: our values. Whatever we do, wherever we are in the world, we lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. These five shared values lead every decision we make and action we take, guiding us to deliver impact how and where it matters most.

Connect to your opportunity

In the Innovation & Ventures team at Deloitte, we get to work on big, gnarly, ambiguous challenges. Things like 'what could an open museum in the desert look like?', or 'how might we create a metaverse concert to launch a whiskey NFT?', or 'how might we reimagine cancer screening in the UK?'

We believe that small, nimble teams with diverse skill sets can create amazing things that change the world. Our multidisciplinary approach opens up a world of possibilities, and we're looking for bold, creative thinkers to join us on this exciting journey.

We are a team of designers, researchers, and innovation strategist with roots in the design-led innovation consultancy Doblin and Monitor Deloitte's lean start-up consulting team. As an innovation-enabling unit housed within Monitor (Deloitte's strategy consulting practice), our work enables some of the world's largest organisations in overcoming their toughest and most radical challenges.

Guided by our ethos of being creative, bold, and entrepreneurial; our toolset combines strategy development, human-centered design, and Lean Start Up methodologies to develop new ventures and innovate across product, service, and business model. We help organisations transform the way they innovate & grow by focusing innovation efforts in the right place; designing, building & launching new value propositions; and becoming faster & more effective innovators.

We are currently seeking a design manager to join our team.

Design Strategists bring their curiosity, empathy and interpretive skills to bear on all aspects of our work - from framing an innovation challenge to designing new propositions and testing prototypes with users. They work directly with senior clients and are responsible for framing innovation challenges and creating compelling narratives to communicate discoveries to client leadership.

As an engagement manager, you will be leading on connecting our teams, projects and clients with the customers and citizens we seek to serve.

The fundamentals:

Design strategists are responsible for:

  • Advocating the design discipline and its value to non-designers, both internally and at client organizations
  • Collaborating with teams of strategists and design researchers to identify innovation opportunities and develop propositions that create value for people and client organisations
  • Deploying research methods including both top-down techniques like demographic and large-scale surveys, and deep qualitative methods like ethnography, customer panels, and behavioural approaches
  • Detecting unmet and emerging customer needs, behaviours and expectations
  • Communicating research discoveries through compelling narratives and visualisations
  • Defining and developing prototypes of new offerings and experiences to test and refine concepts in-market
  • Collaborating with other designers to create and deliver immersive working sessions that engage and empower leaders to act
  • Facilitating workshops and leading collaborative strategy development sessions with clients, using proven I&V and Monitor Deloitte IP and methodologies to drive decision-making
  • Facilitating conversations with client teams to identify and develop new opportunities for their organisations

As an Engagement Manager you will:

  • Lead the running of engagements: Independently leading engagements from scoping through delivery by managing engagement teams and working with Deloitte Partners and other internal teams (e.g. Technology, Deloitte Digital) to help clients solve their most significant strategic challenges
  • Leading bids and pitching to clients: Coordinating efforts with stakeholders from across Deloitte to develop winning responses to client requests for proposals; from crafting win themes to structuring project plans and timelines
  • Building and developing client relationships: Working with stakeholders from across Deloitte to identify sales opportunities and build distinctive, enduring, client relationships
  • Developing our people: Mentoring junior colleagues, helping them to build technical as well as soft skills and coaching them to achieve their career aspirations
  • Contributing to thought leadership: Developing and socialising Innovation & Venture methods, IP and research agenda

Connect to your skills and professional experience

We welcome individuals from all kinds of professional journeys. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate these characteristics:

  • A proven track record in Innovation, Design Strategy, Service Design, User Experience or other relevant industry (e.g. consultancy, start-up, tech, product, public sector)
  • A portfolio that demonstrates ability to apply a variety of design tools and methods based on the question or challenge at hand, strong story-telling skills, and the ability to communicate compelling human experiences
  • A passion for learning about the world, human behaviour, and the motivations that lie beneath the surface
  • The practised ability to tie observations from research to recommendations and actions
  • Comfort with ambiguity and experimentation
  • An interest in multiple disciplines and approaches, and a demonstrated ability to wear multiple hats - being directive or hands-on when required
  • Flexibility to adapt to and master Monitor Deloitte methods (e.g. Choice Structuring, Venture Path and Doblin Innovation)
  • Compelling written and spoken communication
  • Strong planning, organisation and documentation skills
  • A collaborative nature, and motivated by effective teamwork
