KPMG's Deal Execution practice is looking for exceptional candidates for a Manager role.

The Deal Execution team is part of KPMG's rapidly expanding Strategy Group, which delivers value for clients by challenging conventional thinking, bringing deep industry and functional insights and executing with investor-grade rigour. We are a diverse team of over 150 practitioners, working collaboratively with and orchestrating KPMG's broad set of capabilities within our Deal Advisory business, and are focused on continually enhancing value for clients across the deal and economic cycle. Our teams comprise of specialists capable of helping clients right through from conceptual thinking of buying a business to turning their business around in times of difficulty.

The Deal Execution Advisory Team

KPMG's Deal Execution Advisory Team is a growing and dynamic team. We work with both vendors and acquirers on mergers, acquisitions, divestments, exits and joint ventures, both pre and post-deal. The team offers four key proposition areas: Separation, Integration, Synergies and Joint Ventures

Roles & Responsibilities

To be an effective Manager within our Deal Execution applicants will be expected to:

  • Build strong, trusted advisor relationships with client counterparts. Establish role as day to day / key client contact on engagements.
  • Take day-to-day responsibility for smaller projects and manage significant elements of larger engagements.
  • Demonstrate deep expertise and an ability to generate insights in a chosen sector.
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of deliverables that span multiple workstreams. Develop the answers and challenges to the likely questions and responses of the client.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and knowledge management activities.
  • Build and maintain a strong Strategy Group and internal KPMG network.

What will you be doing?

The role of a manager focuses on proactively supporting a Deal Execution engagement at deal pace and delivering high quality client work alongside client stakeholders. Working in a transaction environment which may be pre or post deal, and ranging from early planning, developing summary or fully detailed and costed "blueprint plans", planning for Day 1, planning post deal implementation, and ultimately supporting execution. This will include:

  • Producing initial and final draft updates, outputs and deliverables to required timescale and ahead of Partner/Director (P&D) review.
  • Supporting client interactions and updates around the deliverables and outputs of a Deal Execution engagement.
  • Understanding of the operations of a business across key functional areas, and of the interdependencies between organisations and the transaction workstreams.
  • Project managing small and medium engagement programmes or several different workstreams on more complex projects.

Role Requirements - Leadership & Management:

  • A Manager is seen as a role model supporting mentoring, coaching and development of junior project team members.
  • Managers are expected to challenge our people to be curious and innovative on all engagements and internal work, and to be supportive of each other.

Stakeholder interaction & Challenges:

  • Demonstrate credibility and experience to advise and deliver on complex Deal Execution deals (involving teams from Deal Execution, DA and the wider firm).
  • Acts as Engagement Manager for small and medium Deal Execution projects (where appropriate).
  • Acts as key point of contact for the client across specific engagement areas.

Impact, Risk, Accountability & Governance:

  • Applies commercial mind-set to support fulfilment of pricing and engagement profitability, using professional judgement to protect the reputation of the firm.
  • Proactively delivers Client independence (Sentinel), Client and Engagement acceptance activities (MSD), to manage the Firm's risk.

What will you need to do it?

Successful applicants will demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstratable experience working in a leading strategy house, Big 4 firm, public sector organisation or strategy / development team in industry.
  • Ability to manage small- / medium-sized teams or significant parts of complex projects or programmes.
  • Experience of developing and preparing business development pitches.
  • Ability to work effectively, influence and challenge senior people (client and internal) while working on a project or business development initiative.

Technical skills:

  • Strong academic track record
  • Evidence of strong problem-solving & analytical capabilities
  • Structured thinking skills combined with creativity.
  • Ability to talk credibly with client counterparts on the key issues and strategic considerations facing the industry.
  • Ability to evaluate complex challenges and deliver insightful recommendations that can be practically executed.
  • Ability review and assess large volumes of technical data and distil the key strategic insights.

Desirable:

  • Be comfortable working in high pressured, ambiguous and flexible conditions that characterise transactions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate personal impact, flexibility, drive and commitment
  • Professional qualifications welcome
  • Possess a genuine interest in building and commercialising relationships having the ability to interact with our clients on a consultative manner as a trusted advisor
