Financial Control is a key function within our Enabling Functions Finance team. The team is split to support the different businesses within Deloitte. The primary function of the team is to ensure our reported figures have integrity and are a true and fair reflection of the financial position of the business. Accordingly, the team is responsible for the coordination and successful completion of the month end and year end close, and ensuring appropriate financial controls being in place. The team provide advice to the business on the application and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, standards, and controls.

We are looking for a highly skilled Finance professional to join our team of Financial Controllers.

Working closely with the Business and our Business Finance team, you will gain a high level of understanding of opportunities and challenges within the business in order to deliver effective financial controls and technical advice, to strengthen the internal financial control environment and enable better decision making. For the role to be effective you will need to build strong relationships with all stakeholders based on trust and impact.

  • Manage all aspects of the month-end close process for the designated Business Area, ensuring all deadlines and/or reporting requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure ongoing compliance with technical accounting standards (e.g., IFRS 15 revenue recognition) and internal control frameworks. Provide guidance and support to embed best practices within daily operations.
  • Lead and continuously improve assigned key financial control processes and standards, ensuring alignment with best practices and promoting consistency.
  • Proactively identify, investigate, and resolve balance sheet discrepancies and accounting issues. Challenge business assumptions and provide recommendations to strengthen the robustness and accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Take a lead on Balance Sheet reporting, reconciliations, and issue resolution.
  • Develop trust and build strong relationships with practitioners. Become a key point of contact on all financial control matters.
  • Assess and mitigate financial risk to promote a risk intelligent culture.

Connect to your skills and professional experience

You will be able to build solid relationships with different stakeholders and possess strong financial controls experience, your questioning mind will offer the opportunity to assess existing processes and look for efficiencies and improvements.

  • Qualified in a recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Demonstrates a strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in their work
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently under deadline pressures, e.g. month end, year-end
  • Strong technical, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment as well as work independently with self-direction
  • Experience in a financial controller role or similar is preferred but not essential
  • Experience of working in a professional services organisation is preferred but not essential
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships with stakeholders
  • Proactive and has a continuous process improvement mindset
  • Experience of using SAP preferred but not essential

Finance and Legal

We provide financial management and accounting support that is aligned to each area of Deloitte's business as well as the leadership team. We prepare the statutory and regulatory reporting required for Deloitte LLP and several other areas, whilst our General Counsel provides legal advice to the Board, the Executive and the Managing Partners.

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm).
