Major Projects Manager

Are you passionate about developing and delivering large-scale projects that make a tangible impact on communities? As our Major Projects Manager, you will have the opportunity to manage a team delivering a varied portfolio of transport and infrastructure projects, adding innovation into our processes, so we can more effectively and safely connect people with places, businesses and each other - across East Sussex.

This is about managing our high-profile Major Projects workstream. Our current portfolio of over £100m capital funding is focussed on delivering public realm and place making improvements in Eastbourne and Hastings, bus priority schemes, major transport infrastructure improvements to support housing and economic growth in South Wealden and along the A259 coast road, and economic growth programmes.

Ideally an experienced accredited project management professional, you will have a growing reputation for managing large-scale projects and ensuring both they and your team adhere to delivering the Council's priorities and plans. An effective leader you will also possess strong negotiation and communication skills, with an ability to build and maintain working relationships with a variety of internal colleagues, key stakeholders, and external partners.

To ensure value is embedded throughout the project lifecycle, you will bring commercial acumen and take a central role in procurement and risk management. As well as resource planning and budget controls, you will bring exceptional people and project planning skills to this role as well as foster an ethos of continual improvement that enhances our work in every way.

We are looking for candidates who can:

  • Manage a dedicated team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Develop robust programme and project plans, manage budgets, risk, and oversee contractors and consultants.
  • Strong financial management skills, with experience overseeing multimillion-pound budgets.
  • Knowledge of construction and project management best practices
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including internal teams, government bodies, funding partners, and communities.
  • Provide expert advice to senior officers and elected members on project delivery strategies.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency's Points-based Immigration System.
