Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic, caring, compassionate and organised individual to support leading the Macmillan Information and Support here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals cancer centre.

You will meet with individual patients/clients carers, relatives and professionals to support access to high quality information and support in relation to cancer. This will include triage of individual patient needs, provision of verbal and written information, supportive listening, action planning and signposting to available services.

You will also be expected to contribute with the support of the Macmillan information manager to the delivery and development of a strategic patient service. You will work on developing and continuing to expand the service into the community. You will support and maintain external and internal communication to promote support for people with cancer.

Main duties of the job

  • Meet with individual patients/clients, carers, relatives and professionals to support access to high quality information and support in relation to cancer. This will include triage of individual patient needs, provision of verbal and written information, supportive listening, action planning and signposting to available services.
  • Work with the Cancer Education Hub, and community services to contribute to the development of training packages to support community colleagues in Cancer Awareness and Education
  • Be an excellent communicator and be involved in the training and development of staff in communication.
  • Be responsible for designing and maintaining a database of service users who are willing to offer insight into local Cancer Care work streams
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the service user needs are at the forefront of all developments and be dedicated to improving patient experience
  • Expected to contribute to the delivery and development of a strategic patient service and to deputise for the Cancer Information Manager during periods of annual leave and absence.
