CBRE Global Workplace Solutions is a leading global provider of integrated facilities and corporate real estate management. We are recruiting a Loading Bay Manager to join the team located in London.

Overview

CBRE are seeking an experienced Loading Bay Manager to oversee and coordinate all operations within our loading bay. The ideal candidate will manage a team of six Banksmen (Traffic Marshals) and one Loading Bay Assistant, ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient loading/unloading activities. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in logistics management, strong leadership skills, and a keen focus on health and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Management

• Supervise a contracted team of six Banksmen (Traffic Marshals) and manage directly one Loading Bay Assistant Manager, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.

• Coordinate daily tasks and rotas to ensure full operational coverage and effective workflow.

2. Operations & Coordination

• Plan and direct all activities related to loading and unloading areas, including scheduling deliveries and pickups, to minimize congestion and downtime.

• Monitor workflow to ensure vehicles are directed in a safe and timely manner and that loading/unloading is carried out to the highest efficiency standards.

3. Health & Safety Compliance

• Enforce and maintain strict health and safety procedures, including adherence to site rules and relevant legislation.

• Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, and routine safety checks to identify and address any potential hazards.

• Oversee traffic management plans and ensure correct signalling and vehicle guidance.

4. Communication & Liaison

• Communicate effectively with drivers, suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders (e.g., Facilities Management, Security Teams).

• Resolve issues or conflicts quickly, maintaining a professional rapport and efficient flow of operations.

5. Administrative Duties

• Keep accurate records of deliveries, vehicle movements, and personnel attendance.

• Prepare and submit regular reports on loading bay performance, safety checks, and compliance metrics.

• Manage inventories of relevant equipment, ensuring everything is operational and well-maintained.

6. Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

• Stay up to date with industry regulations, technologies, and best practices, implementing changes as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

1. Formal Education & Certifications

• Banksman (Traffic Marshal) Certificate: Demonstrated competence in directing vehicles and ensuring safe traffic movements (CITB-accredited or equivalent).

• CSCS Card: A valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme card, proving basic health and safety awareness.

• Additional training such as Slinger/Signaller or Forklift/Telehandler licenses is advantageous.

• Any recognized Health & Safety certifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent) are beneficial, particularly for management-level roles.

2. Experience

• Proven experience managing loading bays, ideally within a busy or high-profile site.

• Strong background in coordinating deliveries, traffic management, and supervising a multi-person team.

• Demonstrable ability to implement and maintain health and safety standards effectively.

3. Skills & Competencies

• Leadership & Team Management: Capable of motivating and leading a diverse team of Banksmen and an assistant, ensuring efficient workflow.

• Organizational & Time Management: Adept at coordinating schedules, managing multiple priorities, and meeting tight deadlines.

• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at various levels.

• Problem-Solving: Able to identify issues quickly and implement effective solutions, especially in time-sensitive or high-pressure situations.

• Attention to Detail: Thorough approach to compliance, record-keeping, and maintaining safety standards.

4. Other Requirements

• Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate deliveries outside of standard business operations, if needed.

Working Conditions

• Primarily based in a loading bay environment with exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and heavy machinery.

• Collaborating with various teams, including facilities, security, contractors, and external delivery personnel.
