Job Title: Liaison Engineer – Structures

Location: Halifax, NS

Salary: $85,206 – $106,389

What you’ll be doing:

  • Deliver on-site engineering support to the shipbuilder at the client’s office in Halifax, Nova Scotia
  • Represent the Structures domain team at workshops, reviews, and key meetings in Halifax
  • Collaborate with the UK Structures Stage 1 Team (Senior EM and Structures TA) to resolve functional design challenges
  • Work closely with the Detail Design community and equipment owners to address and resolve issues hindering shipbuilding and integration activities within the Structures domain
  • Develop design guidance, including sketches and solutions for shipbuilding and integration queries, as required
  • Provide Shipbuilder Field Service Engineers and BAE Systems Design Liaisons with necessary documentation (drawings, parts, documents) to support issue resolution.
  • Regularly update and provide feedback to the client regarding the status of queries being resolved by the UK team

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Previous experience in leading a small design team
  • Technical knowledge of the Structures domain, including Main Hull Structural Design and Major Equipment Seat Design (Cat A seats), with the ability to effectively address customer queries and provide clear guidance to the engineering team in the UK
  • Commercial awareness with a solid understanding of subcontract boundaries, as well as key interfaces with the Shipbuilder, their customer/end user, and other subcontractors
  • Registered Professional Engineer or actively working toward designation

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the use of Classification Society rules and processes, preferably Lloyd’s Register Naval Ship Rules
  • Awareness of shipyard production and fabrication processes and issues

The River Class Destroyer Structures team:

This role is based at the client’s (ISI) offices in Halifax, Nova Scotia, supporting the River Class Destroyer (RCD) Project. As the first-line engineering liaison to the Shipbuilder, you will provide hands-on support, consultancy, and guidance for all engineering queries related to the Structures domain. You’ll collaborate with the core Structural design team in the UK, who are responsible for the design and analysis of the RCD’s structural components, including LR NSR Rule-based design, Global & Local FEA, and major equipment seat design (Cat A Seats). You will be supported by a senior engineer in-country as part of your line management.
