Summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented legal professional to join our small but busy Legal team at our headquarters in London. This is a great opportunity to join a leading international climate NGO working with multinational businesses and governments to accelerate global climate action, fast.

The Legal Manager will draft, review and negotiate a variety of contracts with well-known commercial organisations and with other key players in the climate sphere. You will work closely with our Events and Sponsorship teams on documentation and advice relating to our flagship events, including Climate Group Asia Action Summit and Climate Week NYC - the largest yearly climate event of its kind. There is scope for development of your skills and to take on more complex work during your contract term.

Reporting to the Head of Legal, you'll be working within a friendly, passionate team, as well as collaborating closely with colleagues at all levels across our global locations, supporting us to continue our impact.

About the role

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the Events and Sponsorship teams to review contracts relating to Climate Week NYC and our other global flagship events.
  • Working with the Client Experience team to draft and negotiate membership agreements.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating other types of contracts.
  • Leading on reviewing and keeping up to date various legal templates.
  • Working with colleagues in our overseas offices and external counsel to draft guidance notes for overseas office templates.
  • Assisting the Legal team with the drafting of data protection documentation including international data transfer agreements, data sharing agreements, policies and procedures, completing legitimate interest assessments, retention schedules and data impact assessments.
  • Assisting with training colleagues on legal issues.

The role will require developing a thorough understanding of our organisational structure and various work streams so you can add value and reduce risk across our global organisation.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have UK experience of drafting, negotiating and reviewing commercial agreements, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Essential

  • An understanding of the key concepts in a commercial contract.
  • Experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts.
  • Fully English qualified solicitor or experienced paralegal with English law experience.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiastic and positive problem-solver.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an in-house role.
  • Experience of drafting UK GDPR compliant documents including documenting processing activities and conducting legitimate interest assessments.
  • Experience of working with colleagues in other jurisdictions (US, India, Netherlands, China).

This is a fixed term maternity cover contract of 12 months which can be considered on a full-time or 4 day a week basis. Start date will be October 2024.

The salary offered is £42,000 to £48,000 per annum (FTE), based on experience.
