The department

L&D is a core element of our People offering, as Birketts LLP believes that staff development and learning should be an integral part of the firm's strategic planning; to enable staff to perform their individual roles effectively and with confidence, and to ensure that we achieve our common objectives and plans for growth.

The central Learning & Development (L&D) team provides learning and development for all staff through training programmes and other development support. Developing our talent and delivers business systems knowledge, business skills and personal development training for all team members within the firm

The L&D team are mainly based in Ipswich and sits alongside the other people functions including HR

Purpose of job

As the L&D Manager for Programmes and development, you will collaborate closely with the Head of L&D. Maintaining and developing the existing portfolio of development opportunities and compliance interventions.

Managing the L&D program and Development team. Overseeing the skills programmes and development proposition across all Birketts population ranging across the levels of legal qualified team members, support team members and business services.

This is a hands-on role with elements of training needs analysis, delivery, design and coaching as well as stakeholder engagement and oversight. To ensure all team members across the offices are developing in line with both firm expectations and to enable their own careers to develop.

  • Manage and support the L&D Programme and development team: Actively coaching, developing, and mentoring team members to excel in their roles.
  • Design and delivery of some skills-based development interventions.
  • Internal and External stakeholder management of both consultants and internal clients. across firm and all locations.
  • Working in close partnership with key stakeholders across the firm, to design and deliver scalable, innovative learning solutions to strengthen core strategic capabilities.
  • Supporting an enabling environment for learning, where learning from experience and others, becomes embedded in the day-to-day work.
  • Responsible for maintaining, designing and delivering of core development programmes, implementing new approaches, delivery methods and technology solutions. When appropriate this may include facilitating, delivering impactful workshops or provide consultancy advice to other teams in the firm.
  • Responsible for externally procuring, as appropriate, providing the necessary contract management and quality assurance.

The candidate

  • Relevant degree (e.g., Business, HR, Law) or equivalent experience.
  • CIPD qualified or equivalent professional L&D qualification
  • Behavioural profiling tool licence/qualification i.e. DiSC, Insights
  • Team supervision experience
  • Proven experience in a multi-location L&D role, with a strong focus on operational aspects.
  • Advanced knowledge of L&D best practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Good analytical skills to assess and interpret L&D metrics and data and use insights to inform programs and delivery methods.
