Learner Support Mentor: Pre 3 Programme (term time, fixed term)

(Term time only 39.6 weeks per year, fixed term until September 2025)

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and efficient mentor who will develop and deliver high quality work with a specific cohort of identified Learners through an agreed programme of support that facilitates their participation in current issues and decision making by creating opportunities for their personal, social and educational development whilst enabling them to reach their full potential.

The post holder will provide a range of pastoral support and non-academic skills along with delivery of a bespoke EPQ programme tailored to the individual Learners. They will be primarily responsible for managing a caseload of Learners referred into the Pre 3 Programme and must be passionate about supporting young people within a college/school environment. The focus of this support will be to enable the Learner to overcome the barriers that may prevent them achieving success whilst at college.

The mentor will follow the principles of youth work to enable them to deliver a supportive and assertive mentoring model to raise Retention, Achievement and Success.

The post holder is expected to demonstrate energy, passion and enthusiasm for making a difference and have the ability to lead group sessions, engage, motivate and support young people both individually and in groups. It is essential that the person appointed has the ability to build positive relationships, displaying excellent communication, motivational, assertiveness skills at all levels in order to ensure supported Learners make positive progress in a timely fashion.

This role requires the post holder to have high quality experience of working with external agencies such as the Local Authority and Health providers to ensure the needs of the Learners are met and to enable them to be successful and achieve their full potential.

The potholder must also have sound administrative, organisational skills and a flexible, adaptable and positive attitude; with a good general education, experience of using databases, processing information and creating regular reports. An IT qualification is also preferable.
