Job Title: Lead Quality Engineer – Calibration

Salary: £49,000 to £52,000 depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Managing the calibration team, delegating workloads efficiently, and influencing the broader organisation to meet calibration requirements effectively
- Implementing calibration best practices across Naval Ships while improving current processes and ways of working to ensure operational excellence
- Engaging proactively with stakeholders to drive business alignment and ensure consistent adherence to processes across all levels of the organisation
- Leading by example in embodying behaviours and meeting quality standards required for calibration activities
- Providing clear and effective management information on calibration performance through comprehensive reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Overseeing and validating internal and external calibration certifications, including reconciling invoices for accuracy and compliance
- Validating small tools and equipment, including standard tools, to ensure all are fit for purpose and meet required standards
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience working within a calibration team or calibration-focused organisation
- In-depth expertise in calibration, verification, and validation processes, including the ability to provide clear technical support and guidance when required
- Comprehensive knowledge of management systems such as ISO9001, ISO10012, and ISO17025, with proven application to calibration activities
- Strong technical understanding and capability to drive quality improvements through effective calibration practices
Desirable:
- Experience in leading and managing teams, with the ability to coach and motivate colleagues
- Prior experience with Inspection Measurement Test Equipment (IMTE)
- Proven success in delivering business change initiatives and driving process improvements
- Qualified as a Lead Auditor (preferably IRCA registered)

The Calibration team:
Join a passionate team delivering quality and precision for UK shipbuilding programmes. The key programmes in Naval Ships are Type 26 where we are currently building 8 anti-submarine frigates. We also have international contracts for the Hunter Class and River Class Destroyer. Focused on calibration and validation tooling, this role is essential in fostering a 100% compliance culture across the business.
