Salary:£55,200 - £83,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.

SSEN Transmission is at the heart of the just transition to net zero in the UK. In the coming years, our network will be pivotal in connecting and transporting the power needed to decarbonise the UK's electricity network and in doing so power the UK's net zero ambition. Our business is rapidly growing, to deliver the largest investment package that Scotland's electricity system has ever seen, with a projected investment programme of over £20bn in the next 10 years.

As Lead Manager, Energy System Modelling, you are the subject matter expert on energy system modelling, which creates a critical insight into the strategic planning of the electricity transmission system necessary to achieve national net zero targets whilst maintain safe, secure supplies to consumers. This role is critical in understanding and analysing the role of energy technologies and innovative market arrangements to ensure network plans in the north of Scotland are developed in a way that reflects the characteristics of the energy technologies and consistent with net zero pathways.

This role will report to our Head of Strategic System Planning sitting in the Business Planning and Commercial directorate.

The responsibilities of the Lead Manager, Energy System Modelling include:

- Build and maintain the GB energy system model to provide critical input into the development of our network plan.

- Undertake energy system modelling to inform robust transmission system requirements analysis within the GB energy context evidenced by thorough understanding of our future network needs to accommodate new renewable electricity generation, demand and flexibility resources.

- Establish strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to build a close awareness of any industry, technology, or national factors that would impact the development of SSEN Transmission's network plans whilst establishing buy-in and active support for our insights and plans.

- Engage with stakeholders on the current and future energy technology representation in energy systems modelling, including with consumers, generators, disruptive technology providers, statutory authorities, regulators, supply chain, academics etc.

- Develop, support and guide a team of policy analysts, specialist power system engineers and data analytics modellers to create a strong, multi skilled team dedicated to producing best practice in the energy modelling landscape.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- A detailed understanding of energy technologies and energy system models and how these relate to and perform in the power system.

- Quantitative analytical capability, with the ability to handle and analyse large quantities of data and support your team in this aspect.

- In depth knowledge of the GB energy industry structure, including markets, economics of transmission investment and networks regulatory framework.

- Nationally recognised subject matter expert in one or more areas relevant to Transmission System Planning and Investment

- Proven ability in building and supporting a skilled team, naturally creating an inclusive environment that enables development and innovative idea generation.
