Job Description

The IT Manager's role is the day-to-day management of all aspects of IT in PIMFA including maintenance and support of internal and public facing systems, liaison with suppliers, and participation in, and oversight of, all software development activities, including specific projects such as PIMFA Wealthtech.

The aim is to ensure that PIMFA makes the optimum use of technology to aid productivity and to enhance the services offered to membership and the wider business community.

Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide PIMFA personnel with a point of contact on all IT matters for support and guidance and to steer the organisation on best practices
  • Maintain and improve the IT security posture of the organisation, including increasing the PIMFA team's awareness of potential threats
  • Assist with the evolution of PIMFA's customer service proposition by actively participating in and management of development projects
  • Maximise PIMFA's utilisation and return on investment in technology
  • Manage IT development and support activities in accordance with an agreed programme plan

The IT Manager's responsibilities will be split broadly between internal and external IT functions and project oversight as outlined below:

Internal IT: all systems, software packages, platforms and hardware utilised by PIMFA personnel operationally. Working within, and contributing to, the IT Governance Framework, the IT Manager will oversee the delivery or maintenance of:

  • All operational systems, ensuring that required updates are applied and that there is a reliable backup and recovery regime
  • IT Security policies, providing suggestions and content on updates which may be required
  • Optimal use of existing software tools, monitoring licensing, status and risk against the catalogue of approved software, licensing
  • Potential integration between software solutions to solve business challenges and inefficiencies
  • A 'golden source' membership repository to aid efficiencies
  • The overall IT plan for PIMFA, covering all IT activities

External IT and project oversight: customer and public facing systems, both live and under development. The IT Manager will:

  • Play a pivotal role in supplier management, including assessment of existing and potential suppliers for specific assignments
  • Implement strategies to ensure that possible risks to PIMFA are mitigated e.g. control of intellectual property (IP), source code and hosting arrangements
  • Assess and confer on system security of existing and new applications, ensuring that these follow agreed development standards
  • Research and implement pay wall technologies or alternatives to protect PIMFA IP and generate revenue streams
  • Project Oversight - be responsible for management of IT aspects of in-flight projects and specifically with PIMFA Wealthtech, work with stakeholders and other PIMFA team members

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be highly experienced and knowledgeable having at least 3 years' experience and success in a similar hands-on IT Manager role. Experience in financial services desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following key requirements for the role:

  • Experience of balancing priorities and managing and successfully delivering complex IT projects, in a fast paced, constantly changing environment
  • Natural autonomy and decision making to manage projects effectively
  • The ability to react quickly and effectively to issues, risks and opportunities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability and confidence to communicate effectively with all levels of stakeholders including non-technical colleagues and clients
  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills to get desired results
  • The ability to self-manage, organise, and prioritise tasks and work under pressure
  • Focused, organised, self-motivated, flexible and dynamic nature
  • Strong personal drive and willingness to get things done
  • Proven ability to work with peers and within a small team, demonstrating excellent team collaboration and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Desire to go above and beyond
